On 740 AM KVOR radio this morning Sheriff Terry Maketa stated, in short, that the Sheriffs of Colorado are being threatened, extorted and blackmailed for speaking up for our 2nd amendment rights.

These threats are being initiated by the Democratic party and possibly all the way to the top of the party from Senators. The door is open for both state and federal investigation for possible charges.

Contact your local Colorado Sheriff and encourage them to file a formal complaint if they themselves have been threatened and thank them for standing up for our 2nd Amendment rights.

Gun Rights Across America Colorado thanks Jeff Crank for providing the audio.

This is what John Morse said: "People who own guns are essentially a "sickness on our souls" that must be "cleansed. ... Cleansing a sickness from our souls doesn't come easy. It's gruesome," Morse said in a short speech announcing the withdrawal of his assault-weapon liability measure.

The Sherriffs in Colorado weild a big stick and they are not happy campers after nearly half of them showed up to testify against the bills last Monday and were snubbed. I hope we see a few politicians doing the "perp walk" before this is over. :p

I really give kudos to the Sheriff's association for standing up for what's right here in Colorado.

I also think they deserve a word of support as well as encouragement to call for investigations of the political pressure and coercive treatment.

I did not receive this message, so I can't swear to its origin. I found it on another forum. http://www.ar-15.co/threads/93481-Terry-Maketa-El-Paso-County-Sheriff-Speaks-out

Terry Maketa, El Paso County Sheriff

I want to take this opportunity to let you all know that I very much appreciate your support. I believe all of us share a passion for all of our Constitutional rights, including our right to bear arms. Unfortunately, we have a liberal majority in control of our legislative process, who without any statistical data, empirical evidence, or studies to support their gun control agenda, will do what it takes to pass these control measures.

I want to make something very clear; I have not been directly threatened or coerced in any way nor would I tolerate any threat. A message delivered verbally to a representative of the Colorado Sheriff's Association basically stated that the Senate Dems are very upset with the Colorado Sheriffs opposing the gun legislation proposed by the Senate Democrats.

This message insinuated that this could negatively affect the salary bill which has been delayed and put off by the Democrats with the excuse that they would expect bipartisan support. I do believe the salary proposal is being held hostage and I believe that if they're willing to send gun control measures without bipartisan support then they should be willing to take a stand as the majority leadership and follow a Democrat-created commission's recommendations.

It is the Democrats’ created commission, which was put in place by Gov. Ritter. That same commission has gone to the legislature on a couple other occasions since its formation to increase the salaries of sheriffs and other elected officials. These salaries have not been increased since they were legislated in 2006. I find it so ironic that they have withheld bringing this forward as legislation and taking formal action, especially in light of a double standard they hold with gun control.

This inaction, and other vague insinuations, I take as quid pro quo. They are holding the salary of sheriffs hostage to gain compliance with gun control matters. I assure you that there is not a legislator on the dems’ side of the isle that will take ownership of this injustice, nor will they know where it came from, but their inaction will speak volumes. This salary proposal or recommendation has no bearing on me personally as it does not affect me since I am term limited.

Again, I want to make it clear this is not about me, or any threats made directly toward me; this is about doing what's right and we have many sheriffs around this state standing their ground and defending law abiding citizens. These proposed laws will not increase public safety or save lives. Rather than create laws that criminalize law abiding citizens or infringe on due process and property rights, we should be targeting criminals.

We should target those who have a history of crime and a history of violence, not erode Constitutional rights nor punish law-abiding citizens, disarm them or restrict their rights. Gun control doesn't work. Chicago is a great example, one of which our president never mentions or uses as an example. Countless studies conducted by DOJ, the Urban Institute and even the American Journal of Medicine show gun control does not work, it only controls law abiding citizens and that's not where we should be focused.

They claim these measures will stop future mass shootings, when in fact they will not. Had these same measures been in place in any of the states where these tragedies took place, the outcomes would have been the same. I want to thank all of you for your support and I think together we can stand firm, we can be heard, and we can make a difference. We cannot let up, we cannot give up and we cannot fall to the rhetoric they're trying to spread.

I will stand tall for you, and with you, and ask all of you to do the same. Government should be for the people, not against the people.

The local Democrats seem to be ignorant or intentionally ignoring the ruling of SCOTUS that the County Sheriff's are _the_ Chief Law Enforcement Officer there.

In many respects, this is no different than the era of Jim Crow Laws. A few but powerful Democratic bigots are using all tactics to withhold the free expression of constitutional rights of others.

Luckily in CO, the Sheriffs are on the side of freedom and not intolerance.

Not trying to sound ignorant, there is a reason they are stretching all this out for one its good for the economy (gun sales are up) which means more tax money, 2 they know most the bills they have submitted isn't going to go through, so in return they will give the same o' same o' speech of "well we tried" . I jush wish it would all stop so I can start buying supplies local again.

You are so far from being correct in your assumption.

No.

No, I believe that the Sheriff's are genuine. You'd have to hear some of their comments.

We're supposed to be expanding upon the plan of supporting the sheriffs against coercive threats and not drifting into wenging.

What can we do to support them and what can we do to put the politicians trying to coerce them on notice that threatening the safety of the people in the sheriffs' jurisdictions?

"I was recently made aware that certain members of the Colorado Senate have made threats against the Colorado sheriffs that spoke out against further firearms/magazine/ammunition restrictions. Such attempts to coerce the duly elected Chief Law Enforcement Officers in those counties by threats of budget cuts is reprehensible. Playing politics with the safety of the citizens of these counties is inexcusable and any elected official doing so should be investigated. Hopefully the citizens of Colorado will remember the reckless and callous behavior of these politicians and send them home to their districts where they can do no more harm."

Walking Tall

Maybe some of those Colorado Sheriffs who have authority over assigning office space in the courthouse need to relocate a few politicians ' offices into the men's room as Buford Pusser did in the movie Walking Tall.
Also I'm sure there are some waterholes near the capital with a lot of local politicos who need field sobriety tests on the drive home. In my state the are easy to spot because they have "special" plates.

Now THAT sounds like a plan!! I like it!!Especially if the subjects seen leaving the Watering Holes are caught on video stumbling out the door of the Gin Joint and fumbling with their keys trying to unlock their car.

Those threats to them come all the way from the White House. God only knows what the Democrats are trying to do to this country, but it's not good.

Our new state flag. Welcome to Commurado, Comrade.

I especially like it when the politicians are caught drunk on video in the booking room threatening the poor LEO (who is just trying to do his/her job) with "don't you know who I am" "I will have your job for this" etc. I love it how these leak to the press! We had one recently who got "her" car towed because she did not have any registration papers with it and she threatened the LEOs who dared to treat her like a regular citizen (subject.) (this is gun related because.....) thinking for a while, it is late (.....these are the kind of politicians who would vote to take 2A away from us.)

I've heard that the Dems in both houses, up for reelection in 2014, in CO have been told by the WH that O will personally campaign for them before the 2014 elections if they vote his way. That's because some of them are not especially fond of some of the new gun rights bills. I'm sure they will do as told or their seats may be lost. In other words... blackmail. I hope all of them are booted out if they go through with it.

Considering that many federal level dem's are distancing themselves from the President, and his approval is low, I would not think that sort of 'bargain' would work with them.

To think that there isn't corruption in our government is like thinking the girls on the corner are selling teddy bears.

It also seems to be an incredible irony, that the gun laws created by the politicians are enforced by the sheriff's being "coerced". Maybe it's too big of a logical jump, but, the Democrats/politicians don't want existing or new gun laws to be enforced by anyone? Let's see how that works out for 'em.

In the words of Lewis Black... "I got a really bad idea." says one politician. Another says, "and I can make it worse!". Of course, he used more colorful, and funnier IMO, language. If you care to see the actual language: 'bout 1:29 in.
