The Dangling Pinky Sydrome

I'm sure ill get greif for this but, I carry a Sig P232. For me it is the perfect size to conceal and actually take to the range to shoot and has enough room to grip it without the pinky hanging due to the mag floor plate. Plus it's damn sexy

OTOH I have handled compacts like the S&W MP and Glocks, that have the extended magazine and those are easy to get a good grip on. The Walther PPS was nice as well.

I too, must have all my fingers on the grip. Anything else doesn't feel good at all. As far as good CCW pistols in 9mm go, the Walther PPS just fits the bill for me. You need the 8rd mag extension to get a full grip, but it sure does feel good with it on there. Way better than the mag extensions on the sub compact Glocks.

I don't know how many fingers you have but I have four and on my LCP one gets the trigger two get the grip and the last curls under the mag, nothing dangles. I have wide hands and long fingers, root to the 5th on my bass neck isn't even a challenge.

I have a LC9 and it serves its purpose, but the trigger just didn't let me put rounds on target quite fast enough, and sights were just OK.

Then I found the Sig P938, put a little hogue slip on grip on it, and discovered my perfect pocket pistol. Check them out, most expensive of the class, but so worth it to me. Excellent sights usually only found on larger guns, tritium and made to allow racking the slide on belt or heel. Trigger a bit heavy, but breaks clean. 1911 style platform that I'm used to, so also a plus for me. You can leave safety engaged while clambering a round. I can make one big ragged hole at seven yards fairly quick, and put all 8 rounds in a 6 inch target at 25 taking my time.

It took me a few days to get used to a cocked and locked single action in my pocket, but the safety doesn't move unless you make it, and I use a good pocket holster.

Obviously YMMV, but this is my Holy Grail of pocket or tiny IWB pistol and I hope it helps give you options to ponder.

Have you tried a Kahr Cw9? I think it might be right up your alley, thin enough to carry well, but long enough in the grip to keep your pinky out of the wind, and in the action.

I carry a full size CZ75B, and I'm a scrawny 21yo computer programmer haha.
Its all about location and cant. I see no reason for those tiny guns when you can pack as much heat as you can.

Well tyeo938, that tiny pistol isn't the only thing I carry, but it is the one I always carry from wake up to bedtime. If you cannot envision times that small pistols are more preferable, I suspect you haven't carried as much or as many places as some of us. I am armed at the beach, snuggling with my wife on the couch, at church getting hugs, at work where others bump into my sides and back regularly, and basically everywhere. When I can carry others on my hip they are there, but the little 9mm is always in my pocket.

Also, as you age, ailments like hernias and back problems or others I haven't experienced yet can make snugging up a good gun belt impossible for a while or ever. Everyone deserves good protection right? Get it now?

you can learn to shoot without that last placebo finger on the grip, it just takes practice

Get a compact, buy the full size mags and put the grip spacer on them.
pretty much every like of compacts takes full size mags and has grip spacers available as OEM accessories.

I have difficulty comfortably concealing a handgun big enough to get my pinky on the grip, but I'm working on it.

I learned to shoot my 642 with an over-sized grip then switched back to factory boot grips and applied what I had learned with my pinky off the grip. It worked, and now I can shoot it better than well enough for close-up encounters. In fact, when I shoot a handgun with pinky on the grip, I have to consciously remind myself not to over use it and pull the rounds low.

99% of mine are.. The other one percent is for my PPK.That I dont carry.

My carry guns are a 1911 Commander - 45acp but you can get them in 9mm
Beretta 92 Type M - Single stack Compact.

Not an issue,but

I find that a 'J' frame shoots just fine for me with pinky under,been doing it for a "few" decades.

Just bought a XDs and shooting it with pinky under was ok.

But a close friend and fellow former instructor for our agency,told me and then showed me his XDs with Pearce grip finger extension.

I bought 2 for the 5 rounder mag's and I have to admit they are much more comfortable and controllable.

Something for you to consider.

I went from 20 years of CC'n a revolver to carry'n kahrs. The cw9 does offer a full grip for most average sized hands and as small enought and light enought to be easy to carry. Works as my iwb carry. I still use a smaller cm9 as a pocket carry. Both carry a 124gr gd+P load. Never paid much attention to needing a pinky finger resting place.

My fingers do the same thing.
After 45+ years of playing guitar, I suppose my pinkie also must do something...it does...it curls under the mag on most of my pistols.

It must be something psyhological, but I hate it when I pick up any tool and there is not enough room to put your hand around it to use it properly. A dangling pinky is like putting on a pair of shoes two sizes too small. It is just not acceptable.

One of my cc guns is a glock 23 (let the glock hate begin...haha). You can get the extended mags for them that would extend your grip. I'm 6'2 and 205 lbs, and have hands like baseball mits, so the extension was the only way I could comfortably shoot that particular gun. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Update on previous recommendation of p938. I had three failures to extract and stovepipe on live round in the 200 rounds fired today. I'm pretty bummed out, but Internet researches show that it is not too uncommon with said model.

It has already been back to Sig for same issue, and after return ran 250 rounds of varied flavors perfectly. Today however was a different story, and I wanted to share my experience to give you full disclosure.

The pinkie is important, too.

Any hand surgeon will tell you that the little finger is there for a reason. While it's small, it plays a big role in grip strength. A bigger role, in fact, than the forefinger or middle finger.

Since grip strength is an issue in proper gun control, it stands to reason that getting the little finger involved would be the best idea.

I bought the Model 60 Pro grips for my M637 Airweight and the extra half-inch of grip made a huge difference in handling and shooting.

I tried the LCP and found it unpleasant to shoot. I have two .380s, a Walther PK380 and a Beretta 84FS Cheetah. The Cheetah is for cold weather when I can use a shoulder holster but the Walther is dandy year-round.
