I had all but given up getting a tag here in AZ. I put in for the draw after they extended the deadline. I didn't even look at the map. My choices are as follows:

#1 - 3057 - Area 23 - 12/6 - 12/12
#2 - 3030 - Area 1, 2B, & 2C - 12/6 - 12/12
#3 - 3060 - Area 27 - 10/18 - 10/24
#4 - 3032 - Area 3A & 3C - 10/18 - 10/24

How did I do?

I have small cabin in New Mexico, so I have elk hunted there for the last 18 years. This is going to be an interesting year.

I'm not sure if you guys are seasoned elk hunters in AZ or not, I am not, so I am going to start posting my resources as I find them.

This link appears to be a good source for Game Management Units. I went up to Unit 23 on Friday and came home Sunday night. I walked just over 26 miles. Some of Unit 23 is pretty easy country, but a lot of it is going to pretty damn hard to hunt! I should have paid better attention to the areas that I picked.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I just picked a new Savage 111 FCNS in .30-06 and plan to use it, although I do have a Mauser converted to 35 Whelen that I could use.

3057 - Cow Hunt - Area 23 - 12/6 - 12/12 for me. I am a little worried that I will basically be starting from scratch again since I have never hunted this unit. Anyone have any wisdom for this hunt? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
