Blackhawk .45 Convertable

The 45 acp cylinder will have a raised ring on the inside of each chamber. This is there to keep the round at the back of the cylinder instead of having it fall through to the end out of reach of the firing pin.

If yours shoots like mine, you're gonna love it.

Quick and easy way to tell is to drop a .45 auto round into the chambers. If it goes in way too deep, that's the .45 Colt cylinder.

Yup. A 45 Colt round will not go all the way into the chambers.

Both will have the chamber ring, in the ACP cylinder the ring is farther to the rear.

Case Lengths approx,
.45 ACP = .898
.45 Colt = 1.275

In addition the .45 Colt at the rear of the case just ahead of
the rim, the diameter of the case is slightly larger than the ACP.

My favorite revolver of all. 2nd place is not even close.

I'd been wanting a Ruger Blackhawk .45 Convertible. Then, I found a 2011 model that looked like it had one box of ammo run through each cyl. It was 400 dollars, and it only cost me 200 dollars out of pocket, because of Visa gift cards I received as part of an incentive plan at work.
Now, to get some more comfortable grips.

Jaymo, There are lot's of grip options for sure but sometimes if you aren't used to a single action type grip they feel awkward..... you need to try and get comfortable with your pinky wrapped around the bottom and a 3 finger grip.

My problem with the factory cheesegrater grips is that they're too thin for my preferences, and the checkering leaves my hands sore after a box of ammo.

The Blackhawk .45 Colt/.45 ACP is quite possibly the best bang for your buck deal ever conceived. I have the 5.5" stainless Bisley convertible and it's unreal.

The great thing is I can load ACP plinking loads for less money than I can Colt ammo.
And, I can load Colt hot for hunting.

My Lipseys 45 Colt flat top also came convertible to 45 ACP, but the gun likes lead 45 colt bullets better. Mid-range velocity with Missouri Bullets cowboy RNFP (12 brnl instead of 16 or 18) shoots real well with several powders and doesn't beat the gun or your wrist up. Good with Trail Boss too but can't get much over 700 fps with max loads.

A single .45 lead round ball, and a few grains of powder, and I have a good plinking load for the ACP.

This is going to be my next purchase to go with my 1911. I've got a good .22 so I can't think of much more I could ever need.

Want is a different beast though.

Funny how we are all different. The thinner factory grips they are using now feel nearly perfect in my hands. The older, rosewood grips were always a bit too wide for my taste.
