Time to turn in the C&R?

I've had my C&R since about 2006. Just 7 years ago. That was back when you could get:
*Yugo SKS in excellent condition for $150
*Swiss K31 for $150
*Yugo Mauser for $150
*Swede Mauser for $200
*Russian Mosins for $70
*Ammo for same, 5-10 cents per round.
*etc, etc, etc.

The combonation of the decreasing dollar value, drying up surplus, and gun control fights has all but eliminated affordable surplus rifles and ammo.

Now, C&Rs are getting closer in price to modern used firearms.

I haven't bought a C&R gun in at least a year. Good deals are more scarce.

I used to also get a good discount from Midway and other places, but I don't buy much any more to take advantage of it, and the discounts are as good as they once were.

I've never been contacted by the ATF, but there is a hassle and small cost to having a C&R, and there is the *possibility* of the hassle of an inspection. And let's be real, that would be a real hassle. Although I've rarely heard of anyone being inspected.

So I'm also considering letting mine expire.

I'm on plenty of lists already (C&R, gun purchases, carry permits, military, etc.). So it isn't as much about that as just about the hassle, which I don't need.

I have a C&R and I write my representatives on postcards. I am not concerned about what others think. I'm pretty sure Ed Markey knows I won't vote for him.

C&R doesn't just mean military surplus... In fact, I believe that ALL of my C&R purchases are not military firearms. Just anything >=50 years. So I've picked up some old rifles, handguns, etc. with it. Saves me the $10 background check fee if I find something at the gun show (no "loophole" here in Oregon), or $35 if I mail order something (no going through my local GS for a transfer).

"Staying off the radar" ...

Makes it sound like you are ashamed to be an American exercising the rights you were born with.

Just sayin.

Email a scan of your FFL 03 to Midway customer service along with your account # and they will switch your account to a dealer account. Fair warning...you have to order at least $40 from them with a dealer account or they will charge a fee. Though I never seem to have a problem spending $40 @ Midway....

After calming down from the France snark, let me just say I am not quitting any fight. I am, however, trying to downsize my profile a bit. Thus, the question.

I can sympathize with this but the time is certainly upon us where we must decide whether to refrain from presently lawful and legitimate activity simply out of fear of future oppression and hopes of an enhanced ability to lurk around unharmed in such a society if it comes to pass, or to stand up and refuse to be intimidated over things that are lawful, legitimate, and try to hold on to our rights and dignity.

My opinion is that I don't want to live a life cowering, so I will not act ashamed about my rights. It's a personal choice for each individual.
