I would recommend W-231.
Meters pretty well and works very well in .45 ACP and quite a few other calibers. As far as projectiles go, Look uo the thread LennyJoe mentioned and call your LGS as well and keep looking online.

I prefer plated bullets and the old, original powder; Bullseye.

Berry's plated bullets & Bullseye powder. Best bullet for .45ACP (all weights) I have ever used. Clean, very high tolerances, smooth, super easy going through loaders. Even better if you order directly and buy in bulk ($75) they will pick up the shipping! I just ordered 5K, and it took just over a month to process through back-order because they are so darn busy, but they sent several e-mails along the way to let me know how things were going. Be patient; they will eventually be delivered as promised.

I use almost nothing but W231/HP-38 for my 45 Auto ammo and most other handgun cartridges too.
I find 45 Auto ammo made with W231 to be extremely accurate.

I like Rainier Ballistics 200gr and 230gr RN. They recommend using lead data but I have good results using mid range jacketed data. I've used Bullseye, W231, Unique, Red Dot, 800X, and True Blue. I've been able to find good loads with all of those powders except 800x, I'll never buy it again, ever, end of discussion, period.

Affordable brass and bullets delivered my order of .40 cal 180 gr x-treme bullets in just over a week. Not bad given the current circumstances

Old staples with the 45 ACP are Bullseye and Unique. When I look at my chronograph data for thrown loads of Unique in the 45 ACP, and compare the ES and SD’s with thrown loads of AA#5, a ball powder, Unique is equal or better. I would not worry too much about metering.

The original 1910 prototype 45ACP round was loaded with Bullseye. Bullseye is an outstanding powder in the 45 ACP. I have shot ammunition cans worth of 230 FMJ’s with W231, it is an outstanding powder. Unique has a following but I only have 230 LRN loads with Unique. Shoots fine with LRN.

I try to keep my 230’s just at 800 fps as that was the velocity specified in 1910. I have chronographed factory ammunition, some are hotter, but I don’t want hot loads battering my pistols.

Missouri Bullet Co. "softball" 230 grain LRN Brinell 18. $46/500. It might take 4 weeks to arrive, depends on where they are in their production cycle. I got some a few weeks back. Bullseye is my standard .45 ACP load, usually 4.7 grains for the LRN which results in an AV of 840 fps from a 5" 1911.

I use MB softball with 4.7 grains of 700-X for a great load. I was using the same load with the X-Treme plated bullets with equally good results in all my handguns, MAC 10, and my M1928 Thompson. I just sized them all to fit the tightest chamber (S&W 457).

Another vote for MBC "softball". I've gone through a couple K of them. I also really like Berry's 230 plated. Particularly for indoors if smoke is a concern (lead lube smokes a little).

Both are 100% reliable and accurate. I use Red Dot mostly.

And I like True Blue in every pistol caliber I load for.

45 ACP is the most forgiving caliber I load. I use either lead or plated 230 RN bullets and whatever powder I have on hand. 231, Red Dot, Green Dot, Herco, Unique, Bullseye, they all work well. Target loads are another story. Lead 200 SWC's and 231.

I like 230gr RN softball from Missouri Bullet Co, and XTreme Bullet 230gr RN. I load my lead bullets using WST, and my XTreme bullets are riding on top of W231, or WST.

+2 on Precision Delta for jacketed and I like Friendswood Bullets for l-rn. My powder is HP-38, Universal, Clays or Titegroup with 9mm and 45 ACP.

Berry's 230gr RN and Wiinchester 231 gets my nod. Wish I could find both during these hard times.

I've used about 8000 precision delta bullets and thet are great bullets. Treat as fmj bullets as they use a true jacket not plating.

I like precision delta because they are true FMJ. 5.3 grains of Bullseye gives me about 825 in my 1911A1 which is pretty close to the original factory ball load. Berrys are OK too but the last I heard they had a one year backlog and were not taking any new orders.In the present climate I would take what I can get

I hope you folks have better luck finding .45ACP 230gr FMJ bullets than I have had ... thankfully, I still have enough to last me for a little while anyway.

I am like many others here. I usually buy my 230gr FMJ bullets from Precision Delta (when they were readily available).

I load these with 5.2gr of W-231 powder and set the OAL to 1.25" for easy cycling in my Colt Gold Cup.

After taper crimping with the Lee 'FCD' die, I get the final case mouth crimp width to .470"

I use Universal powder, and it did not burn all of the powder. I could see some powder left in the MT case. Is this normal ?
