This is of course, a terrible thing to happen, but they are really grasping here.

I'm betting he would have been able to walk into any store and buy a gun legally.

They are focusing on the gun rather than the mental illness that was the real cause.

Pastor Rick Warren has tweeted that his son killed himself with an unregistered gun purchased through the Internet.

Orange County Sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said Thursday that the gun's serial number was scratched off.

Perhaps the father should have paid attention to his son and been a better parent.

OK... so the guy said his son was depressed, bought a gun through the internet (in all likelyhood just arranged a FTF sale through the internet) and then shot himself with it.

Your son having depression is not a sign of bad parenting
Stating how it happend is not vilifying the evil internet.
Nobody said that it couldn't have been done with a registered gun.
They set up a mental health fund as opposed to say a gun control fund. So Noone is focusing on the gun instead of the illness.

Why are we getting outraged?

Last time I checked, guns don't kill someone unless the trigger is pulled. So the intent was already there. Whether it be pills, or hanging, or slitting his wrists, he had the intention of killing himself.

I feel for his father. Losing a son is terrible. And when faced with a tragedy, people always look to blame someone or something. But he will realize with time that the gun wasn't the cause of his son's death.

Sigh...

Really? This guys son killed himself, and with no other information with which to base your opinion except a news article that quotes a tweet, you decide the guy was a horrible parent? Dudes....

The kid suffered from depression. That's a chemical imbalance, not a parenting issue. I am tempted to close this thread, to be honest.

Timbo,
I made no mention to the father being a bad parent. I agree that since none of us knew this man, there should be no stones cast his way. No parent is perfect. I would agree that if this thread turns into a "bad parent" thread it should be closed. We are better than that on THR.
