You know ammo is scarce when...

when you are shooting bows and hoping arrows are in stock?

when that pesky cat gets a free pass because .22 ammo is too precious? (dog helps with this one though)

when you tell your wife she has to adjust the grocery budget if you find .22 for sale?

When you practice shooting in your basement with your "Official 200 Shot Red Ryder Range Model Air Rifle, with compass in the stock." :D :D

Don't shoot your eye out, Kid.

When stores start selling 22 ammunition by the round.
When premium ammunition begins to be sold in 10-round boxes.
When you take your kids shooting 22's and you give them only enough ammunition to load the gun and you say "make each shot count" and mean it.
When you start sighting in your guns with only one shot per target and two shots become a "group".

...when you add your ammunition (counted by round, not box or bulk pack) and reloading components to your firearms inventory file.

(I did this two weeks ago and was a little surprised!)

When your daughter's range ammunition budget is fifty (50) rounds of .22lr and one (1) round of .243.

And you coach her through shooting that single round of .243. And she hits that 300 meter plate with that single round.

...when a friend buys his first gun ever (Glock 19), and must wait weeks or even months to shoot it, due to no 9mm ammo in town.

...when images of the depression-era "bread lines" from high school history books enter your head when glancing toward the ammo counter of your local sporting goods store.

...when you hold off on shooting for much longer than normal, due to fear you won't be able to replace the ammo you shoot.

...when you consider adding 9mm dies and components to your reloading bench, even though you vowed you could probably never load enough 9mm on a single stage press to recover the component costs.

- You start collecting aluminum cans just to fund ammo purchases.

- The baby sitter wants to be paid in 'bullets per hour' instead of dollars per hour.

- You have to take out additional homeowners insurance to cover your ammo stash.

- .22 shorts are even sold out at the LGS.

- The local TV News station is considering adding ammo prices to their daily recap of livestock and grain prices (For those of us in agricultural areas).

- The price of gasoline doesn't bother you as much as the price of ammunition.

John

When you change the code on the safe cause you caught your wife looking at ammo prices on gunbroker and going "hum".

... when you can trade some of your stash of ammo for pistols or rifles

And I am doing just that! Anyone with an extra Upper or better yet a BCG they want to trade for?

Love all the psots so far!

- When your local range is selling bullets in groups of 5 for what a box was 6 months ago.
- when your local range doesn't have those rentals available anymore since they are low on ammo.

... when you pay to rent a full-auto gun at a range and just take the ammo because that's the only way to get it.

When people are buying the most maligned Remington GB bulk packs , one of the dirtiest .22 s to boot.

<raises hand slowly showing embarrassed acknowledgement of such behavior>

It doesn't work well in my Marlin 60, but it's better than nothing in the bolt actions.

...when you start using ammunition boxes as decorations in rooms.
...when you look at a bulk pack of Remington Golden Bullets and it makes you feel good! I feel Good!

When even paying premium prices $100 for 525 rd Remington GB Packs , is considered normal. Yep, 5x the normal is considered the new normal.
