I have some imr 4350 that Im planning to start loading in .223 with 55 grain jacketed bullets. I have used this powder in loading for 30-06 with decent results. I was wondering if anybody out there has any experience with this load combination. It will be fodder for my mini 14.

I see no recommended loads for 4350 for 223 on Hodgdon website and they have a huge number of loads listed.

Without consulting my loading books, I would say that 4350 is too slow for optimum performance with 55 gr. bullets in 223. Although the Mini-14 is not as sensitive to port pressure variations as a M-1, I would worry about using a powder as slow as 4350 for that reason.

I did find a load with a start load 26 gr. 2415 fps with pressure of 34800.

The reason you can't find data is 4350 is way too slow a powder for use in the .223. You probably can't get enough of it in such a small case to produce acceptable performance. Some reloaders think it's even slow for loading the 30-06 although I use almost nothing else in the 30-06. I'm not sure the pressure curve will reliably cycle the action in a Mini14 either. There are SO MANY good powders for the .223 out there but 4350 just isn't one of them.

223? VARGET, VARGET, VARGET!! 3/4" 100 yard 5 shot groups is not bench rest accuracy, but from my ol' handi-rifle, I'll take it. 27 grains with 55 g v-max bullets in lc91 brass gets it for me.
