XDs Series Pistols

There is a used XDs at my LGS. I was surprised to see that. Supposedly the guy didn't like the trigger pull. I suspect he couldn't handle shooting it.

My brother just bought one earlier this week. Seems to be a dandy little pistol, I'll let you know for sure once I get it out to the range myself. I really like Springfields, my CCW is a XDm 9mm, would not dream of trading it for any glock.

I don't think the XDs 9mm is actually in the market yet. I could be wrong.

I love my XDs .45ACP. A 45 this size, super accurate and reliable PLUS fun to shoot? Not much to hate there. BUTTTTT if the 9mm is exactly the same size - I could wrong - there are so many other smaller 9mm pistols, I would struggle with the benefit, maybe increased round count, well and nice feel, and grip safety...and accuracy.....:D I could be wrong.
That is correct. If the .45 is any indication, maybe Santa can bring me one this Christmas.

Unbelievably accurate for a small gun. With a little polishing, the trigger is quite good too with a moderate take up and good let off.

What part(s) received the polishing? (referencing the parts list would be appreciated) :)

My XD-S trigger is mediocre....the break is far from crisp. On the other hand, the take up and over travel is better than the other XD handguns I have....granted, the trigger is a different design. None the less, I enjoy shooting it. Just waiting for my holster to be made before it starts concealed carry duty.

Delford....to answer your question, mine handles 230 gr ball ammo just fine. I've put no less than a half dozen different factory brands through it. I've found no issues with hollow points either, have tried some Black Talons, Winchester Silver Tips, and a couple other odds and ends that were in the range bag. I've ran 230 gr lead through mine too without a problem. Haven't tried any SWC and probably won't as I don't typically reload them.

I haven't noticed a shortage of XDs pistols at all. Then even had one at the McChord BX for $570 out the door. Try finding a Sig 556 pistol.

It's my carry gun since I traded an EMP for it plus enough cash for Benneli 12 gauge. I am ten times more satisfied with the accuracy than the shield or the lc9, "had both". The lc9 was better for carry but wasn't a 45, and had the worse trigger I ever felt.
The xds worked right out of the box, with no problems and impressed everyone who tried it. No one could believe the recoil was almost the same as the 9mm. The emp was a pretty gun, but very heavy and too nice to carry.
It also kicked more than the 45.

Try finding a Sig 556 pistol.

You know I put one on order and two weeks later Sandyhook happened. I almost sold it right away when prices for them shot up to twice the going rate, but I haven't even played with it enough yet to know if I'll keep it.

Fun gun. Got about 300 rounds through it.

I wanted it for a truck gun, since we cannot have a loaded long gun in a vehicle. I also don't like the buffer tube of a conventional AR pistol. One popped up locally but he wanted twice what he paid so I let it pass- and I don't regret doing so. Someday.

Picked one up at a local Sportsman's Warehouse for $529 a couple weeks ago.

Finally shot 50 rounds of 230 grain hardball through it today. One of the mags isn't locking the slide back when empty.

Fairly accurate. Took a few rounds to figure out POI, as it seemed to be shooting high. Couldn't manage a group quite as good as riceboy72's, but I think I've been shooting too much 9mm lately, and the light little .45 seemed a tad punishing in comparison to my SIGs and M&Ps ...

Would like to see how it feels with the 7-round mag in place -- I'd been told they were originally shipping with one 7-rounder and then stopped, now only shipping with two 5-rounders? Even a recent article in one of the gun rags stated that SA shipped the XDs with a 7-rounder. Hmm.

I don't think they ever actually shipped with 7 round mags.

I just picked one up last week. I was surprised how light the recoil was. I am hoping someone comes out with a nice 22 conversion for it. I also hope somebody ends up making a long slide for it. Somewhere in the 4.5" range. It carries pretty nicely as is. I had to shave the floor plate of my magazines because they stick out a little in front of the grip. I also bought a Pearce grip and had to cut it down at the bottom.

One thing I like about my XDS is that it forces me to be exacting in my shooting fundamentals. It will shoot where you point the muzzle but it's easy to jerk the trigger and it's not forgiving like my Colt MK IV Series 70 GCNM. That said I love this pistol and it carries perfectly in my front pocket.

awesome pistol! plenty of 'em around me..I love tiny bricklaunchers. And no, they didn't originally ship with 7 rd'ers...They came later.

OK folks its mod time.

A company called Powder River Precision (PRP) makes a spring kit for the XDS that lightens the trigger pull from about 5 pounds to 4 pounds + or - some change.

Installation requires a bit of mechanical skill and is helped by viewing the links to these videos.

Video 1 shows part of a complete breakdown much of which is not necessary to install the kit but I added it anyhow.

Get a good punch kit. I found one at Home Depot that fit the bill just fine and you can use a piece of 2X4 with drilled holes in it to act as a base when you punch out the pins.

If you decide to by the kit and install it (about $15) I suggest you get either a fine hard Arkansas stone or some 600 grit wet and dry sandpaper and take the time to polish every part that touches or rubs against another one. That does not mean taking a bunch of metal off just giving what you got a shine and removing any high spots from stamped pieces. This does a great job of smoothing out the overall action.

I also recommend not using the PRP striker spring. It seems too soft and may cause lite strikes on the primers. You can try it and if you experience lite strikes, it is very easy to replace with the original spring.

This mod will allow you to become intimate with the internal workings of the gun and improve the overall characteristics of it as well.

A thin coat of grease on the parts that slide or rub goes a long way too.

One of the main things that causes lite strikes is any dirt in the striker channel. Do not use a lot of oil in it or it will pick up dirt from firing. A lite coat of oil on your fingers rubbed on the striker spring is all it needs.
