Finished up the testing of the Golden Tiger 5.45x39 59gr FMJ round. Here are the conditions and results.

Test conditions:
-SGL 31-61
-Test rounds fired from 15 feet
-"FBI spec" (Their term, not mine...) Clear Ballistics gel block

Results:
-2909 FPS, 1108 FT/LBS energy
-18'' of penetration

Here's the video showing the test, the permanent cavity, where the bullet started to tumble, and a discussion of the results:

Nice review and test. Seems the 60gr FMJ performs fairly unremarkably for a spitzer. Did you have a chance to section one to see if its lead through and through or if it integrates a hollow nose cavity like some 7.62x39 (Ex: Regular black box Wolf, much to my surprise) and the 7N6?

I believe all commercial 60 fmj still has the hollow cavity.

From left to right: 7N6, 60 fmj, 60 fmj, 70 fmj, 55 hp

I've always been impressed by the 5.45x39. It's an efficient little cartridge, IMO.

Thanks for sharing this!

I have the surplus Russian in 53 gr FMJ that is similarly sold at wideners.com , I wonder how they d perform as well ?
