The Official 2013 Panic "Walk of Shame" Thread

Sorry, I've got lots of firearms but haven't bought anything since the panic started.

The day of the Sandy Hook shooting I went in and bought a .357 mag for $150 before I knew anything had happened.

If I'd known about the shooting I would have bought the $350 Tec9 they had in the case. Then prices on everything jumped into the ridiculous range so I haven't bought anything since then.

I did pay $600 for an I.O. AK after the Aurora shooting though.

$279 for 500rds of Wolf 62gr .223 steel case (I have the same stuff on backorder for $189but the delivery keeps getting pushed back. I think I'll see it October if I'm lucky.)

$1800 for a NIB Colt 6920MP.... BUT I sold of my old SIG556 Classic for $1500 that I no longer wanted to fund the purchase. (The way I justify it to myself, I basically "traded" the old rifle plus $300 for the new rifle. Which even pre-panic isn't a bad deal.)

I have been rationing the small quantities of handgun ammo, I had on hand but will probably have to breakdown and get an overpriced box of .22lr sooner or later.

My Arsenal SLG-21 has really solidified it's place as my favorite rifle. If for no other reason than I could still search out ammo for a decent price.

I can't wait for things to return to normal, so I can dust-off my other guns and shoot them too.

I am embarrased to admit that i felt compelled to panic buy 2 boxes of Tulammo 380 auto for $16/box even though i had plenty of good 380 at home ($7/box) and could have loaded a years worth with components on hand. The Tulammo would not even rack or eject. Total waste.

$35 for Hornady Critical Duty 9mm 50rd box plus $12 shipping. It's either that or have a paperweight to throw at a bad guy. Bullets seemed like better idea.

I haven't been looking too hard for anything else so haven't been spending money.

considering Buds had 556 Classics for $899 at some point, I'd say you did just fine.

I *splurged* last week and bought this Legion Sobol for $1k. I broke my own rule about $500 being the ceiling for a 22LR rifle, but it was the last one in the country and the importer went belly up many years ago. Its doubtful I'd ever be able to find another and I've seen its more normal iteration go for $750 used on GB (from a normal retail of $299). The fact that the Sobol was listed on GB unsuccessfully many times at $699 two years back is something I'd prefer not to remember. Strike while the iron is hot, right?

$39.99 for a brick of 500 22LR. This was BEFORE 22 started disappearing from shelves. In my defense the guy I bought it from runs a one man operation, and he helped me with a transfer when another LGS basically thumbed their noses at me. I bought it just to show the guy some support.

I sold a very used Bushmaster to some chump who didnt plan ahead for $2000.

I bought a 375 round box of winchester 22lr for $21. But I was literally out of 22 ammo. Squirrel and Rabbit season finished off the last. That's the only thing I've bought since Sandy Hook.

I haven't bought anything since last November. Back then I picked up 750 rounds of CCI AR Tactical and 2000 rounds of Winchester M-22 ammo that were on sale at the time.

I paid $34.99/each for two Ruger BX25 magazines today. They just happened to have two of them set aside in the back of a store I frequent, and the employee was nice enough to give them to me. This is probably $10/each more than I had intended to pay for this type of magazine, but given that I haven't been able to find them (and they're banned here as of July 1st), I paid the premium.

Given what some people have been paying for other items, I don't think I got taken too badly!

$34.95 for a pound of Varget x3.
Normal price around here is $200.00/8Lb. or $28.95/Lb.
It's not that I don't have any Varget but I'm now sure I have enough to get through to 2014 with what I already had on hand.

$100 each for Glock 31rd & 22rd mags, $50 each for a total of 4 Glock 23 & 19 mags.

No regrets.

I also picked up a Department of Corrections trade-in G23 (read as: barely touched) for $405. I went in willing to pay $700, but caught a lucky break. If I had paid $700, I still wouldn't feel remorse.

I had the money, and I paid amounts I was willing to pay to get what I wanted.

$15.95 for some reloaded 9mm from a LGS that is truly a gun store. He reloads almost everything and his prices are always too high on everything but I buy something on occasion because I like to have the local guy stay in business. This was at the height of the panic an 9mm was not available anywhere so I threw him a bone. I had absolutely no need of additional 9mm taget ammo.

I took up 9X18 since the banic started. I kept a pretty cool head.

I've bought 3 - 2 CZ-82's and 1 Makarov - probably overpaid by around $25 each for the privilege of using Gunbroker. Not great but not shabby. Ammo yeah balloon of embarrassment up. I've bought three brands of brass - all from $17.99-$19.99 box, plus I bought 10 boxes of Brown bear for $14.99. I have 1000 rounds now. Mags aren't cheap for these low price guns BTW!

No other ammo or guns. But I have been using gun money for optics, mounts, slings and related items (gas block), and did score some other magazines.

I paid about $75 for 1000 small pistol primers (hey - shipping was free :D). In my defense, I had just bought my first press and dies in early December, and was slowly acquiring all the necessary components when it hit the fan. I got impatient.

I refused to buy any ammo or firearms during the "Aftermath Panic of CT Shootings" knowing that eventually things will return to a stable market. Look at all the AR's folks bought at 3 to 4 times pre-panic on credit cards and now face the reality of selling at a loss to pay the bill or keeping an incredibly overpriced AR in their safe. Lived through the late 60's gun law changes and Clinton's ban that didn't work and still standing. While we all know the current administration won't give up, I have faith that the Pro Gun Crowd will intensify their efforts to maintain the rights we're afforded.
IF people would STOP buying at these inflated prices and take a breath the supply will return and prices will fall once again. Keep paying stupidly high prices you just become part of the problem. :what:

I did (sort of) partake in the panic. I was in the market for an AR, and then SH kinda forced my hand. I paid normal prices for everything (or as normal as my LGS would allow, they're always a touch on the high side, but real good people).

Things I MAY have ended up with if SH had not happened:
A 5.56 AR-15
~500 or so rounds to break it in
~5 or 6 mags.

What ended up happening:
An ATI HDA-16 AR (limited in brand choice, but an AWESOME rifle for the price, a Head Down build) $999 (MSRP $1079)
Three additional Maadi mags for the RPK ($14 each)
TWENTY SEVEN(!) AR-15 mags, of varying style and price ($15-$21 each) thanks a LOT, hickenlooper...

And the one I got technically "gouged" on (by someone else OTHER THAN MYSELF  100 rounds of .223 and .556, for $19/box for 20 rounds.
