Getting Better? Not here in Kansas it isn't.

I saw something today that I wouldn't have believed could happen a year ago. I was in Walmart around 1:00 p.m., passing by the firearms area and its empty shelves, and the clerk there told me a shipment was coming in at 4:00 this very day with "40, 45, and 380" on it. So, around 4:15, I had reason to be back on that side of town and talked my wife into stopping in to see if there was any....no ammo unloaded yet, but there were roughly 10 people in line waiting. I didn't want to hang around just waiting (I'm not quite that desperate for ammo) so we left and got something to eat. Then, the wifey remembered something else she wanted at Walmart so we stopped back by at 6:00; 10 people, the same 10 people still waiting after 2 hours, each for 3 boxes of ammo!!! The truck hadn't been unloaded yet. At least they had organized themselves; they knew how many boxes were on the shipment and each person declared what they were buying....as the 11th person, I knew there wasn't going to be any 45 by the time I reached the counter, so there was no reason to wait. I thanked them and left.

Those of you in areas who are starting to see some ammo, please ship a little here to the Midwest, huh?

Your situation with Walmart in Kansas is the same what is going on with Walmart here in Kentucky.
 
Here in Georgia it seems like the ammo situation is loosening up just a little. I have seen 9 mm and .223 and 5.56 on the shelves for more than 24 hours recently for the first time in months at the lgs. 45 acp, 38 sp and .357 have been available on and off the whole time, but now are fairly steady. I think the hoarders are fully engoarged or out of money, one or the other. Now powder, primers and bullets, that's another story.
 
Well, that's a relief. I was convinced that the Walmart employees around here were stashing the ammo for resale on armslist.

The problm is if they can replace the order they just got in. A LGS finally got their order in which they have been waiting on for 5 months. Five months with little if any ammo or sale. One of their orders was a total of 6 boxes of assorted ammo. A whole 300 rounds. Kinda hard to run a shop with no ammo.
 
It has steadily been getting better around here. I was in Scheels yesterday an they had probably 100 boxes of win 555. I didn't buy cuz they had them marked 27.99 and I'm not that desperate. They have always had .357 .40 .45 and all the large caliber rifle ammo. Yesterday though the shelves were stocked full of every handgun ammo including 9mm, they had a bunch of .223/ 556 ammo, Pmags with over a 100ar mags total plus AK and Glock mags, lots of AR15s, the handgun cases were full of everything including Glocks.. Looked normal in there.
However they were still low on reloading supplies which was the only thing I had any interest in buying. Hopefully since they are getting back to normal on everything else components will be next
 
Time to learn how to reload. For 45, you can use the Lee classic loader quite effectively.
 
I live in Kansas as well and the all of the Wal-Marts near me are out of stock and have been for months. I did manage to score 6 boxes of Tula 7.62x39 5 or 6 weeks ago (4.99 a box me thinks). The guy let me pay for 3 with cash and the other 3 with debit. Still sitting in my closet for the right day to go shooting. The weather around here is terrible.
 
So where are the reloading supplies you need if you plan to reload.

They all over on gunbroker, if you don't mind paying $70 for a pound of Unique, $100 for 1000 primers, etc.
 
There was an ECA gunshow near here today and i went to check ammo prices and availability.
Prices were too outlandish except for .22LR. The lowest prices I could find was for $47 for a 500 rd. brick!! One of the dealers had a bulk pack of 550/555 (??) rounds for $62 !! Another had some German import ammo in a sealed can for $75/500 rds.
There were fairly good supplies of 7.62x39, .223, 5.56, and other rifle calibers. In shorter supply and about 20% higher in price than Nov. 2012, were .38, .357, 9mm, .40, and .45, but it was available.
 
It makes you wonder what kind of drugs the people reporting "things getting better", are on? I can't imagine waiting at Walmart for 2 or 3 hours to buy 3 boxes of ammo. They must be on drugs too....

I waited in line at Walmart and was "lucky" to buy ONE box of 45 acp (that is all they had of 45 acp...or anything else handgun or rifle for that matter ... after it was my turn, waiting in line).

At the local Walmart here in California we still have 20 guys lining up at 6am to get to the store before it opens at 7am. The last time I went in that early the morning, one of the Walmart ladies scolded several grown men for running in the store in a massive bum rush to get to the ammo counter. Yes, people are still panicking that we have to tumble over each other to get ammo. The crunch is still on until people stop stampeding like it is a discounted ipad on Black Friday at Best Buy.
 
I'm also in Kansas, and I've been able to pick up some (20rnds) .380 JHP and (100rnds) .22 truncated cone at Dick's Sporting Goods and 2 x 100 Winchester .380 FMJ at my local Walmart, but it has been very hit or miss.
