More than one 1911? Why?

The reason some folks buy more than one 1911 is the same reason some folks buy more than one car, more than one boat, collect watches, etc.

Some folks are, by nature, COLLECTORS.

It's not rational. It makes no sense. But, on the other hand, it generally hurts nobody, gives the collector psychic comfort, and can -- in the case of guns -- always be used to defend their person or their home. If worse comes to worse, the collected items can also be sold, as gun can be pretty fungible. (I remember having to sell three guns once to buy a pretty nice, nearly new pickup. Hated it, but needed the truck.)

So I did a quick search and turned up nothing on this topic. I have two 1911s and my wife wanted to know why I needed/wanted both. I have my eye an another one as well. I know why I have two but I pose this question. Do you have multiple handguns of the same make model and caliber? Why? :what:
Tell your wife because Louis Awerbuck.. here's a video of him explaining why two 1911's etc.. it's about two minutes long..

I used to have a real collector's personality (not a pack rat who keeps everything they've ever owned) I collected baseball cards, coins, instruments, vintage pocket knives, and firearms. One day I woke up, and suddenly felt compelled to trim the number of my possessions WAY down. I went from collector to minimalist overnight, and sold just about everything I owned. I now own one baseball card, ten silver American coins, one instrument, one vintage pocket knife, and three firearms.

At one point, I had ten 1911s. Now I only own one; a 2010 Remington R1. Some days I honestly do miss my 1918 Colt M1911, and my Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special, but in reality, I've found I'm happier with fewer possessions. Not to mention, the money raised from selling all those collections helped me finish a large chunk of graduate work toward a Masters in Us History. With that, I'm quite satisfied.

My Grandfather's WW1 1911 (shoots great. Hope I can too when I'm 100): ac71bf63.jpg

What I usually carry when I travel (Kimber Ultra compact CDP II):

One I bought for ME but I think my wife wants it for herself (S&W Scandium 1911 4.25" barrel) kept it for ready access in the family room:

I own more. Another colt, a DGFM, a couple of Springfield 1911s (one stainless "race gun" for bowling pin and falling steel matches I no longer shoot), they're all fun. "Question isn't about how many guns to own, no more than pairs of shoes or earrings or other jewelry. It's a hobby, and investment, a lifestyle. Besides, the law says we gotta buy one gun a month, honey."
