This thread has some of the ugliest guns I've ever seen. What's with the funky bolt knobs? It looks like the shift handle on a 1964 Plymouth 3 on the tree.

haha, I actually used to think the same thing about the big bolt knobs jim! Kept an open mind and tried one once, and holy cow was it easier to use. simply just easier to grab (especially with some gloves on) and the extra leverage really smoothes out the action. then they started to look a lot nicer too ;)

I guess kis2 but I will allow losing 15 thousands on my bolt cycle to have my bolt look like a bolt, not A turn signal lever.
I don't shoot competitively, but I can understand the need to gain a edge.

it's all good friend, do what works for you! as previously noted, to each his own. I listed the objective benefits, but if you subjectively hate it, you just can't do it! Got a lot of things on my list just like that.

I understand the benefits. I understand why people want to own guns in that category. But I prefer sheep gun's in the 6lb w/scope class because that's what I use.
Note: those M700's in this thread really are ugly.

Oh yeah, I understand exactly what you are saying Jim. I used to feel the same, they started growing on me. I know I would be lynched for saying this but I don't like wooden stocks on rifles. I own quite a few with them, it they are mostly passed down from other family members. Like I said, to each their own, and I am glad we are all different. That is where some great creations are thought up...

I get ya Charlie. The most get the job done rifle I own is a plastic stock M700 in .300 Weatherby. Bought it off a grocery store bulletin board for $300. Ugly? Yes. A good rifle? yes. Something I show off? No.

Now that we've got that all worked out, pictures!

Here's a before and after of mine. Let's see some more awesome rifles.

Given the lack of activity on this thread, I presume everyone is out shooting their ugly rifles. So how about some range reports ... preferably with pics!

Sorry the picture is lost on my post ... Anyway here is the ugly beast.

Cool. Never heard of wetworks though. Are they new?

A local company run by one of my friends and about eight employees. He mainly works with benchrest and tactical rifles, but does a great job at the everyday target. He and his crew have built rifles for years but not generally to the open public. They also do a lot of r&d and testing for companies.

not often that i spend more time looking at the background than the rifle... nice pics

Thank you guys. I live for this desert. I'm also a backpacker and sometimes disappear in here for days or weeks at a time.
There is an old mining road out on BLM land with a 1700 meter flat stretch that ends abruptly at a mountain face. If you trust the guys you shoot with, it's kinda cool to go half way down range and back up 25 yards and sit behind a boulder and listen to 308 or 6.5 heading towards the steel. LOL.

This is a Christensen 338 Lapua mag using a Rem 700 action in a carbon fiber, adjustable stock. It's topped off with an IOR Valdada 12 - 52 x 56mm with a 40mm main tube.
