I bought a used lightweight champion and was having some minor feeding problems when chambering the first round from a full magazine, but otherwise it was working find. I sent it in to Springfield because they said that if it was due to a mfg issue they would fix it for free. They called back and said that the frame was over polished and that I needed to buy a new frame for $276. I told them to send it back because I figured I'd take it to a local smith to check it out. Now that I have it back, it feeds much worse than it did before and it looks like there has been some grinding done on the ramp. I didn't take pictures of it before I sent it, but now I wish I had. If the ramp is "over done", what are my options?

You need a real gunsmith.
If the barrel is ok, EGW makes a frame ramp insert that will restore shape and angle.

If the barrel is messed up, too, a new integral ramp barrel would be the fix.

Neither is a simple job and a new barrel will cost a good bit.

What Jim is trying to say is that the pistols prior owner had polished the feed ramp of the pistol. What he (or she) accomplished is to polish or grind through the (very) thin hard anodizing of the feed ramp. This exposes the soft aluminum beneath the feed ramp which deforms easily and usually results in poor feeding. Your options are few and expensive. New frame, new ramped barrel.

I bought a used Kimber that the/a prior owner had done exactly what Velocette described.
I sent it to Rogers Precision and he performed the stainless insert surgery outlined in Creeper's link above. Chuck does exceptional work.

It is a keeper.

Thanks for the input. I expect that you're all correct. However, I just got the firearm back from SA and the barrel looks to be messed up. It wasn't like that when I sent it in. It also seems to have caused more damage to the frame.

The ramp on the barrel appears to have the corners flared out and it has marred up the frame where it slides through. This just keeps getting worse.
