I am looking to trade a Taurus 809 and possibly a gen 1 Taurus 24/7 .40 in for a new .40 cal pistol; what should I get? I prefer American made with a ambi safety. If not American made I was thinking possibly a Beretta or Sig. Also something that XS sights has a set of sights for.

I don't know about XS sights having a set of sights for it, but I just got a Sig 2022 in .40 a few months ago and it's a great gun for the money. Polymer so it's nice and light. Very accurate.

There are a few great CZ's in .40 that you might want to look at. The P-07 Duty in .40 and the P-06 come to mind.

The S&W M&P or maybe a KAHR are about the only American autos I can think of that are trustworthy.

I would personally go for a GLOCK over the S&W, but you said you want a safety lever, so ..

M&P

I have a Glock Model 22 as well as an M&P40c. They are both good guns, the Smith is more visually appealing than the Glock and feels better in my hand. The Glock, perhaps because it's a little bigger is nicer shooting a slightly more accurate.

I really do like my M&P40c. I also love my Steyr M40 and XDm 4.5 in .40S&W, but they don't really fit your criteria.

I have an H&K USP 40 and a Gen 4 Glock 22, these are both really good range guns, I shoot these a lot. I'd like to find an STI Trojan in .40 S&W, but these are rare.

I like both my H&K and Sig .40s. If it could only be one, it would be H&K though. In fact, I have a USP .40 up on GB right now. Selling for a very reasonable fixed price. Go check it out!

I have a M&P9C that is my EDC, I like it and thought about getting a M&P40 but also thought there could possibly be something better out there. I have no complaints with my M&P9C and am very familiar with its features/functioning so maybe a M&P40 is the way to go for a nightstand pistol. Has anyone tried using a .357 sig barrel in an M&P40 and did you have any problems?

Let's see made in america.....

Glocks out, unless you could find one of those made in america ones.....
Steyr m40 is out
Hk's are out
Cz's are out
Sa xd and other variations are out
Walther ppq is out

Those out......my first pick would have been the fnh fns or fnx, but no xs sights, so they are out. Next choice would be s&w m&p. After those two id lean towards sigs (cause allot are made here in america). That would be about it with your requirements.

I have an M&P with the Apex trigger, and an XD 40 tactical. Both are very good & if I had to pick one, in a close vote, I'd pick the M&P as it feels better in my hand.

The Springfield XD and XDM pistols are amazing, though they're not American made. Same goes for anything CZ.

The benefit of the XDM is that it has 16+1 capacity, comes with a fancy case, and is capable of really impressive accuracy. The major downside is the cost, which is around $600 plus tax.

Here's a picture of my 4.5" XDM chambered in .40S&W. It has been really reliable and is very comfortable.

the fns 40 is a really good gun , comes with 3 mags,
my top 40 list is
P229
fns 40

The S&W M&P, Ruger SR40/SR40C, and Sig P229 are all nice American made .40 pistols. Out of those three, it would really come down to personal preference, the Ruger is probably going to be cheapest, and the P229 most expensive. CDNN does have a special running on M&P 40's right now, $399 in like new condition I believe, I think that is the route I would go. Also if you like Sigs, keep an eye on Summit Gun broker and Wideners, they both seem to get in lots of used, surplus and CPO Sigs.

thank y'all for the input, I am thinking I will get a M&P40 or possibly a Sig.

Gtscotty: I looked on cdnninvestments.com and do not see where they sell firearms; where are you seeing M&P40's for $399?
