9+ months really???

Well, considering the original intent of NFA 34 was a practical ban using congress's ability to tax as a work around, I don't think anyone really considered an easier process for double plus dippers.

Process reform is something I hope organizations like the ASA are pushing. Hell, just hiring a few more heads would improve things substantially.

Never never NEVER put money down on a can that isn't in stock, either directly from the dealer or from an online distributor, otherwise you can suffer the wait of TWO transfers for just ONE!
This, if you want the can "quickly". Some manufacturers are backordered 2-3 months on manufacturing. So you could be looking at several months before the F3 to your dealer is submitted.

If you've been cleared for a Form 4 NFA transfer ONCE, purchases should be cash and carry with a simple NICS check. Assumption being if you STILL have NFA items (which their computers should tell them), you're still eligible to have them and buy more.
This is the government we are talking about. That is the most logical and reasonable thing that they could do. Of course they won't do that, it makes too much sense.

Silencers should be lifted from the NFA. If the concern for putting silencers under the NFA was really about poaching without detection, well then what about bow and arrows? One can take down a deer without any detection with a bow and arrow.

And about Short barreled rifles, they originally wanted to put handguns under the NFA. Then took out that provision, but left the short barrel rifle rule in. Change short barreled rifles to the same category as a pistol, you have to be over 21 and purchase it in the state that you live in.

Ideally, I think both the NFA and the 1968 GCA should be scrapped. But I doubt we'll see that happen, at least get silencers and short barreled rifles off the NFA.

Swalton1943, the reason they have better access to suppressors. So our manufacturers are sending suppressors to the "sure" sell places, while we wait on back orders.

Still waiting on my Form 1s, but my dealer has one of my two cans in with the Form 3 in just under 4 months, waiting on the other.

It is a bit strange regarding the wait times. If I was in charge Id use an ocr program and scanners to speed up the process and have it autocheck for criminal records. If none exist, then automatic approve, but add a 30 day wait period to make sure they didnt get brainwashed watching a hitman movie. If there is an expungement or record, have it put into a 30 day review, and then add the 30 day wait. So technically thats 2 months tops, provided the background checks come within 24hrs each.

Yes you can do the form 1 suppressors with your own lathe for cheap and save wait time, but I like to buy other companies products (although not enough to 3d cad their setup and cnc my own copy) I would rather design my own.

Although if you want to make a "Silencer" (3000fps @ 35 decibals) you can spend a couple million with nanotech white noise generators, rxc endo transient material, and custom formed gel.
