LGS has just received a shipment of these, personally I'm not impressed. Barrel heavy, comes with 2-7 rd mags.& all accessories, holster etc.I have small hands & my pinky finger dangled well below the grip.I'll have to pass on this piece, considering the hefty price. The good news is they're out there.
Jim.

I saw a used XD(S) .45 priced at nearly $900 a few months back - gun prices are just plain stupid at this point.

I think I got the Mrs her XD(S) for just about $500 when they were quite new, I wonder what the cash price on an XD(S) 9x19mm really is? (and knowing me, I'll find out if one comes up in the wild)

Everybody knows that introductory pricing of a long awaited firearm is always far, far below what the price will be a down the road.

It's a simple fact of supply and demand.

Yes, . . . other brands may come at a cheaper price point. Sometimes "price" isn't as much of an issue as function/mechanism. . . . . even aethetics. These things are obviously subjective. I'm going with the XDs 9mm because of how I like them [over the competitors].

Equivalent gun from S&W costs about $450.
And doesn't have a grip safety.

And we're arguing about an advertised price compared to an actual price. About $450 cash might get some of us an XD(S)9, at the right place. No way to know yet. I intend to look up how much I paid for the Mrs's XD(S)45 and offer a bit under that for the 9mm when it presents itself at my preferred LGS - and maybe haggle a bit from there.

Looks like the 9mm version will be a bit more expensive than that in my neck of the woods. Whatever. It's what I feel is best for me.

I like the XDS platform. I have been on the fence about the 45acp or get the 9mm. Over the last 12 months I have picked up a pps and shield both in 9mm so I think I may take the plunge on the 45acp version. I like the xd platform and shoot the FS xd's very well.

Actually (unless I misunderstood the OP) the $590 price was what his LGS was offering them for. So it would be actuall price.

Don't get me wrong $590 is not really a lot of money for a tool of such importance and will last several years. I would not let $150 keep me from getting a gun I felt was "just right" but it does seem that the XDs9 is priced higher than its major competitors

My LGS sells the XDS in .45 for around 5 bills plus tax, $590.00 seems high. Have a .45, would like to try the 9mm.

First, the closest S&W comes to the XD is "roughly equivalent". It is not "equivalent".

Second, S&W first sold us out to the Clinton/Brady debacle, before selling the company out. The new company bought my ill will for the old.

If a person doesn't mind that, and they want to buy S&W, that's their business and their right. If they think S&W is a better value than the XD, likewise. If they think the XD isn't worth the asking price, great.

But S&W does not offer an equivalent weapon if you define equivalent as essentially the same in form, function, quality & features.

Well, Sig offers not only an equivalent but better weapon than S&W and the XDs in the P290 ;). But of course my post, like yours, is opinion

help me out

"Well, Sig offers not only an equivalent but better weapon than S&W and the XDs in the P290 . But of course my post, like yours, is opinion."

I have to admit that I have no personal experience with the Sig P290. I am interested in getting a single stack 9mm. One reason I haven't any experience with the P290 or any other Sig is a lot of bad reviews I've gotten by word of mouth.

Why do you think the P290 is better than the XD or S&W "rough equivalent"?
I'm looking into getting a single stack 9 to replace my XD subcompact. The XD functioned perfectly the whole time I owned it, but I'm no lover of name brands. Objectively measured performance and quality are much more important to me.

BTW, the part about S&W selling us out is history, not opinion. Secondly, I was not really trying to say that the XD is better than the S&W, just that they are not "equivalent", because they don't have the same features, quality etc. To me "equivalent" is virtually a clone. Maybe the original user of that term meant that they are both single stack 9mm, but to me, that is not equivalent.

I have had both the Shield and [now my new] XDs in my hand and I feel that the XDs was definitely the better choice [for me]. I found the quality superior [subjective, of course, and not "by a lot", . . . enough, though]. I like the way the XDs fits in my hand much better. I like the trigger better. I much prefer the grip safety over the thumb safety. I couldn't be happier with my decision.

Your mileage may vary.

The XDS 9 is the exact same design as the XDS 45, except the barrel is thicker to make the bore smaller. As a result, the XDS 9 weighs 1.5 oz more than the 45 (23 vs 21.5 with unloaded mag).

And by exact same design, I mean to include barrel length. Despite being 6.3" long, the XDS 9 only has a 3.3" barrel. That's insane.

The XDs 9 weighs about the same as an all steel Kahr K9. Same height. Same capacity (7+1). Except the k9 is 0.3" shorter with a barrel that is 0.256" longer. And the K9 came out nearly 20 years ago.

The Kahr P9 has a longer barrel and shorter OAL than the XDS 9, and weighs 6 ounces less! It came out in 1999.

Not nearly as impressed with the XDs 9 as I was with the XDs 45

The entire reason I went for an XDs is because it is in 45 acp. I'm sure that the 9mm version is nice, but 9mm guns that size are nothing new.

The LGS got a XDS in today. $569 + tax.
I was going to buy it but after seeing it I think I'll pass.
I especially don't like the XDS unnecessary grip safety.

I have the 9mm and 40 S&W Shield. Excellent guns and $125 cheaper than the XDS.
