Never fired a HP pistol, but I have two 9mm carbines and one .40 carbine, and they're so much fun something's just GOTTA be wrong with them!

I'll probably buy one soon just to support them because they are an Ohio firearms manufacturer. Have my sights on the c9. Never fired one but for the price I don't think you can go wrong.

I'm constantly amazed that people will happily pay big $$$ for guns that need to be tuned and tweaked; then dismiss Hi-Points because they aren't World-Class pistols right out of the box.

This is so true. Makes me laugh.

I have never handed my Hi Point 9mm to a person that didn't enjoy shooting it. Gun people will invariably look at me like I'm crazy and then fire off 9 rounds with no issues. The next look I get is more along the lines of what a great shooting gun it is. They aren't for everyone and I don't strap mine to my $100 belt in my $150 holster and carry it to the opera every weekend but of all the pistols I have, from $100 to $2000, it is THE most dependable semi I have ever owned. I like the sights and the trigger is okay, not great but okay. The only problem I ever had was with an after market mag that caused multiple FtFs and we all know that NEVER happens with a 1911.
The breakin period for my HiPoint was about 2 rounds. Performed perfectly right out of the box so I decided I didn't need a trigger job, new grips, Crimson Trace lasers or marksman sights.
It sure is ugly and is huge for a single stack 9mm. If I owned a Glock I would compare the two but I don't because THEY are butt ugly guns. I want my butt ugly guns to be made in 'merica.

Of the last three hi-points I have used (also first three), two 9mm pistols, and one 9mm carbine, the pistols jammed probably every three to four shots (may have been ammo, but I don't think so), the trigger pull was awful, as was the trigger slap, and the carbine was amazing (once you get the magazines broken in). I don't own any, but would spring for the carbine at the right price.

Could also be used as a boat anchor, bludgeoning device, or anything else you want, but you can always send it in to the factory and they will fix it!

You guys gonna make me drag this story out again?

Bought my .40 carbine new and two boxes of ammo. Went to an indoor range, and this butch female RO had a good giggle that I had me a new HiPoint. She came to the range to watch me shoot it, I'm sure she thought she was going to see a cool explosion or something.

Hung the first target and ran it out, took the carbine out of the box, loaded it up and went to town. No sight adjustments or anything, just shot a whole box at one target.

Put up a second target, ran through the second box.

As I was packing up to leave, I could tell that Butch the RO was sorely disappointed.

Yeah, those HiPoints ain't nothin' but junk. After all, how many bullets did I waste that went through those big holes without touching paper?

Had two Hi Points, ended up selling them both. I kinda miss them both as well. The .45 pistol was accurate and reliable. The 9mm carbine was the same. The only issue I had with either one was a rust issue on the carbine receiver cover. Some matte black Rust-o-leum spray paint took care of that issue. Accurate to minute of paper plate at 100 yards.

But as I could afford better, I purchased better. Nothing wrong with a Hi Point. Good guns for a budget.

I own and shoot a c9, great gun. I also have a number of other semi autos and revolvers, Smith, Taurus, XDM, etc. Hi Point bashers should shoot one before posting opinions. Mine shoots well and has never presented a problem. I have had issues with guns, most shooters do at some point in time, it is the case with most mechanical devices, guns included. Lighten up, Just because it is low priced and made differently doesn't make it bad. Get off the bashing bandwagon and go out shooting and have some fun. Just sayin.:)

We need to give the Hi-Point the recognition it deserves so lets hear it from you dyed in the wool Hi-Point fans!!!

Let's not do that or they will cost as much as a high end 1911. As far as failures, that person must be smoking something other than tobacco. Still can't get over how accurate they are.

Jim

But let's not leave out us 4095 TS owners. Put me in for the 1,000 meter shoot.

the pistols jammed probably every three to four shots (may have been ammo, but I don't think so),

Most Hi-Points malfunction because of three things: limp-writing, bumping the mag release button (I used to do this on my C9 all the time for the first 100 rounds or so) and improperly adjusted lips on the magazine.

It's easy to dismiss them as junk because they're inexpensive and shoddy performance is what one might expect. Indeed, it's what some people might want as a way of justifying the purchase of a more expensive firearm.

But it's also easy to stop limp-writing, make a conscious effort to keep ones thumb away from the mag release and adjust the feed lips until the gun runs properly.

I don't think it was me limpwristing it, because there were three of us shooting these two guns, and all having the same problem. It could, however have been the mag lips, because (if I recall correctly) we were just using one magazine for both guns.

More than likely. The mags are, from what i have read at th HP forums, the most common culprit.

As I mentioned in an earlier post this was the only problem I ever experienced with literally 1000s of rounds through my C9. The factory mag has been perfect using the cheapest ammo I can find from reloads to quality HPs but the extra mag I bought from an LGS caused multiple issues with every mag.

I say we have special matches for Hi-Point pistols only with special recognition for the Hi-Point that had the prettiest paint job or the fanciest grips.

Hi-Point: The only Pistol I can think of where you can add night sights and double it's value.

They're reliable, go bang when you ask it to, and are priced at what they really cost to make plus a little to the man for the effort. Not priced as high as 'the market will bear.'

I wanted a 9mm Carbine about a year ago and just about bought a Beretta CX4. I had it in my hand when I saw the hi points $249 price tag. I had no intention of using the thing for anything other than plinking so I laid down the $249 for the hi point and spent the rest of the money I would have spent on the Beretta and bought a safe too.

I won't lie and say I was 100% satisfied with it out of the box. I had problems with it jamming and the slide getting stuck open but I sent it back to Hi point and they took care of it. I put a red dot sight on it and can shoot a 1" grouping from about 50 yards. it is by far the cheapest gun I have ever purchased but is surprisingly enjoyable to shoot.

I would, by no means, trust my life with it but I reach for it any time there are some soda cans that need some holes in them.

My only hands on experience with Hi Point was with the .40 S&W handgun. Jammed multiple times through numerous magazines. Then we put away the ammo that the owner brought which was steel cased and used my brass .40 S&W and the malfunctions stopped completely.

They work with the right ammo but after a few magazines, I went back to my XD40 and didn't shoot the Hi Point again.

If I owned a Glock I would compare the two but I don't because THEY are butt ugly guns. I want my butt ugly guns to be made in 'merica.

Like new Glocks?

I'll add my own two shiny copper Lincoln coins. A couple years ago as I was just getting back into firearms, my second handgun was a Hipoint c9. It was big, ugly, a hair uglier than a glock, gave the walther ppq and beretta neo a run for their money and in the end, the neo and ppq prevailed as the winners for the ugliest gun known to man :) .

Anyways, done with the bashing aesthetics of other guns. The c9 had a jam within the first box. after this, It would jam about two times a mag. It would double feed and flip the round vertical, missing the chamber but resting on the top of the barrel. I played around with the feed lips a little bit at home, bent em til I thought I made em look right... I never took pliers to the range with me and patiently worked with the mag. I ended up selling it for $90. Had I known what I do now about everything firearms related in general, im sure I'd have her running like a champ.

On the surface the carbine targets look impressive, however, there is no mention of the distance. Since most indoor ranges max out at 25-50 yards, I'd expect those results from nearly any rifle at that distance. Heck, I could make a group like that with most of my pistols at my indoor range. At least one of the targets in this thread is noted as being at 50 yards, my bone stock Ruger 10/22 can do as well or better at 50 yards.

If it is a 100 yard indoor range, it is the exception and I take back my criticism.

No experience with Hi-Point so I have no dog in this fight.

Don't own any Hi-points, but with my informal shooting group {We call ourselves The Cheap Galoots} I have fired most all of Hi-Points offerings, except the new .45Carbine.

Overall impressions: Pig-butt-stuck-in-a-mud-fence ugly, goes BANG! on request every time and puts the lead where you aim. Hi-Point will fix it Free, even if you are the 3rd/4th/5th etc owner.

I have the .40 s&w and the .45 pistols. The 40 has over 2000 rounds through it since HiPoint replaced the original mag which had some issues. Nice shooter and accurate to boot, shot the bull out of an 8" target at 10 yards last week, eats any ammo I feed it. Only 300 rounds through the .45, no failures and just as accurate. I had the 9mm and it was just as good a shooter as the other 2. Got offered $50 more than I paid for it so it left.

Has anyone who owns one noticed that the slide's paint job is pretty durable? It is powder coated paint, right? I've shot mine, wiped it down and it looks like new.
