Powder choice--and loads for .270 WSM

I have a box of 140 gr accubonds to try and load up.

Have Win 760, IMR 4831, ad IMR 4350 but wish to hold onto the 435 for other loads.



Any good loads/powder for 140 and 150 gr bullets?

Using for Mulies and Elk.

MagPro works well for me with 140 gr AccuBonds, 140gr Barnes TSX and 129gr Barnes LRX.

Well gee, I guess I didn't help you much there did I. Of the 3 powders you listed, I've only used IMR 4350 and it works almost as well as MagPro for me.

Thats fine. I REALLY want to save the only 2 lbs I have of 4350 for the creedmoor till I can get more IMR 4350 or H4350.

Thats why I ask. I have 2 lbs of the 4831 and want to have other choices if I run out and have a hard tie finding powder.....how long is this going to last :(

I hope the 4831 works well I have heard 4831 in both IMR and Hogdgon does ok in the WSMS all around.

Still working on my heavier grains in my 270 WSM but IMR4350 works REALLY well with 130gr SGKs mine shoots one ragged hole at a mild 3150fps. Going to try something slower burning for my 140 and 150gr loads though. Probably 4831sc and RL22.
 
Just a word to the wise I ALWAYS try RL22 in any magnum cartridge, without question it is my favorite slow burner and the second most versatile powder I have ever used. And to sweeten the deal RL22 is readily available unlike 4831 or 4350 which have been sold out around here for some time.
 
+1 on Retumbo and the 140 Accubonds . 71.5 grs is stellar in my partners model 70 Winchester shooting under 1 inch at 200 yds at around 3,175 fps as I recall . What more can a man ask for ?

No one mentioned it, but according to www.hodgdon.com, Win 760 puts up some decent numbers when compared to the other two powders listed, but you really should use magnum primers to light that ball powder, but it's something to consider. IMR4831 should give you the best results with the heavy bullets, being a bit slower burning.
After all, finding the best load is what it's all about. Work up some loads using IMR4831 and W760 and let the rifle decide what it likes. It would be nice if you have a chronograph to verify.

Found a 1lb can of Magpro today along with some 150 gr LR accubonds. hey have a .625 BC so even though they are slower by about 100 fps, the high BC should give them a flight path just as if not flatter than the 140gr accubonds. Thats a win--wi right there. Heavier+ harder hitting and just as flat if not flatter :)

Now I have a second powder for the .270 and ca save the 4831 possibly for the creedmooor until I can find more 4350 or other suitable powder.
