About two weeks ago I opened a new !# container of blue dot and could not see any blue granules. Waited two weeks for a reply from Alliant, they said maybe the powder was old and the grafite may have coated the blue granules. I dont know what I have here and would appreciate any input.

Old? The date of manufacture and/or lot number should be printed on the bottle.

If the container truly was brand new, the seal still intact under the lid, and the bottle clearly states it's bluedot, then that's what you have.. Bludot.

Was the seal intact? If so then "Don's" post is spot on. I have about a half 8# jug of Green and Blue. Like the "dots". Also use quite a bit of Red.

I recently bought a few lbs of blue dot, and after looking at it closely I could see that some of the flakes had a barely noticeable blue tint that would be easy to overlook, and I could see if the powder had been disturbed a lot during shipping, that powder dust would cover the flakes to the point of obscuring the blue tint
Thanks for the info guys. I checked the lot#315x041513, maybe the last 6 indicate date of mfg. I like the dots too, been using it for years, mainly shotgun and handgun with very satisfactory results. This is the first time there were no dots.

Brand new powder! Seems like it's usually about 1 1/2-2 years old by the time I get it.
