I want a 10 shot bolt .308

I want to say I saw a bolt set up 308 for the ar family platform. It looked somewhat like those 50 bolt upper kits. I didn't. Read into it and maynot be what you are looking for and no telling the price.

Look into stripper clips for the RFI Enfield. The Royal Ordinance Board thought they worked well enough for the British Empire to continue to use them through numerous colonial conflicts and two world wars.

Ruger Scout Rifle ?

have you looked at the Ruger scout rifle,comes standard with 10 round magazine.

Had to buy 5 rounders for hunting.

They also say there is a 3 round flush mag too.

I got mine in .308

With LIR scope,shoots well enough for minute of deer at 200 yards.

as mentioned, the Ruger Gunsite Scout comes right out of the box configured just as you are describing in the initial post.

Its an excellent rifle and is quite accurate as well.

I tried to hold back for years from buying a Ruger. It didn't end as I had planned. :banghead: It was love at first touch! That Gunsite haunted me until I opened my wallet and brought it home. Do yourself a favor! Do not shoulder a Ruger Gunsite unless you want to fall in love. It's just the way they fit the human body...like a slow-dance with the prom queen.

First off, I am a huge fan of the Ruger GSR. I have owned one for a couple of years and it is simply great! However, I realize that it may be priced out of some folks budget. With that in mind, you could get a Howa or Weatherby short action .308 and add the Legacy Sports mag kit. Iron sights are the only challenge.

They rifles are great, very solid and accurate, but I have no practical experience with the mag kits.

Honestly after all this it would probably be cheaper to get the Ruger.

The Mossberg MVP looks like something that might fit your requirements.
They say they take standard AR mags although I'm not sure of which standard that is in the 308. If it is the DPMS style mag that would be a very nice gun.

I think eventually someone will come out with a extended mag for the Ruger American. Either buy the compact version or cut down the regular to a convenient barrel length. Would be pretty easy to thread the barrel for a FH and drill/tap for a front sight. Kinda of a poor man's Ruger GSR.

IMO however, an extended/10 round mag just gets in the way.

i have the ruger gsr, and highly recommend it. i was just in my local shop the other day and they had a couple for $730 iirc. i paid a little less than that about a year ago.

i went back and forth about using another rifle, but by the time i would've added a DBM and iron sights, i was at the cost of the ruger anyway, and likely with a crappier stock.

i've been thinking about buying a compact ruger american. i'd prefer a bit more than 4+1 capacity, but that's still plenty to handle most things, and with a spare on hand i'd feel fine. mounting decent irons on it might be more of a trick, especially if you want aperture sights.

Mossberg is releasing a 308 MVP that uses M14 mags. They may have one with iron sights.

I like my FR-8 just fine feeding from stripper clips. Loading the clip doesn't hardly slow me down when firing a 10-shot string... and 50 cent K98 stripper clips are a lot more affordable than any detachable mags, so I end up able to carry a lot more ammo ready to go than I otherwise would. Plus it is a lighter weight way to carry ammo.

Back40 nailed it regarding price. By the time you buy the rifle, then get the add-ons, you're well over the cost of a RGS. Consider if you get a basic synthetic rifle, with internal magazine for $300.00 (used). Add $150 for a laminate stock, $150 to $200 for a removable box magazine, at least $200 for adding front and rear sights (if you install them yourself). You're already at $800 to $850. And I didn't even mention adding the forward M1913 rail, and the free rings that come with the Ruger GS. The rail will cost you another $50 and a set of rings, plan on at least $30. So, we just added $80 more. So, a total as equipped by Ruger, $880 to $930. The sole advantage would be, you could put it together a month at a time, as money permits.

Regarding the Mossberg MVPs, they are wonderful rifles! I have one in 5.56, and it's so accurate. It seems to take forever to empty a 20 round magazine. The 30 round magazines feel a bit too long. If Mossberg does indeed go through with bringing out a .308 MVP that takes M1A magazines, I will be looking into one.

Regarding the Ruger American...wow, just wow what a rifle. It would be interesting to see an extended capacity magazine for it.

Take a look at the spanish mauser FR-8, I allmost pulled the trigger on a FR-7(meant to fire the ctme round, not 7.62 nato). The FR-7 was only 250 and it had a black parkeized finsh. Also a bayonet:banghead:

i know you want a bolt but a rem 760 10 round mag.
