What is the worst improvement you've ever seen done to a handgun? (I am on duty all night... Plenty of time)

I cant forget that Colt Python... Drilled and tapped and adorned with a Tasco scope... Stag grips...

It was a glock for sale on gunbroker where the owner completely cut off the trigger guard. Just the trigger sticking out.

Oh, where to begin.

For starters, the Colt Cobra I'm picking up this weekend has some jackass's initials scratched into the side plate. Oh well, for $125...

I've also seen old model 3-screw blackhawks gouged to hell by hideous scope mounts, and a Ruger MK3 stainless that somebody had engraved (mediocre) over the whole gun and wanted $1500 for it. Big ugly fake suppressors are on the list, as are muzzle brakes that belong on a rifle.

Just when I think I've seen it all, a whole new level of stupid crops up. What's next for that Glock? Mexican AIWB carry?

That Glock sold for $575??

Terrible chop job. But the gun likely sold for parts or just to replace the frame fairly cheaply. The package had 8 or 9 regular mags, 3 tall mags, and 3 barrels, and many other extras. Just for the mags, you're talking about $200-$300, and another $300 for the barrels, and at least $50 in other extras...

That Glock is endgame. I never thought I'd feel this sorry for an inanimate object.

^ Judging by the chop job Im guessing they are all Korean mags and not worth 10 cents much less real money... Besides unless the seller typo'd those 12rd 9mm (G26) mags wont fit...

Wow, that hurt my eyes to look at that monstrosity for even just a few seconds. Definitely a winner as the all-time worst DIY custom handgun project.

That had to be a joke.
Or someone was trying to win a bet about the stupidity of the gun-buying public, or something.

Did you notice the only part of the mags that was painted was the part that wouldn't extend beyond the grip?

:neener:

I was trying to find any reason for such a paint job on the mags and failed.

I noticed the seller pointed out the buyer could easily replace the frame (which he had butchered).

The Glock is one gun that nobody I know customizes; they use it as-issued by the factory, or use something else.

Really? People add all kinds of aftermarket parts. I suppose maybe that's not really customizing (like one would a 1911). But there are some Glocks out there that have very few Glock parts left in them. New barrels. Steel frames. Again not common mind you. Not sure it's buying anybody much mind you. Just saying.

If you're in a shooting class (especially one with a lot of mag change drills) painting your mags helps distinguish them from everyone else's, but I would paint it so that the mag was bright and easy to find, not FDE. But beyond that I have no idea why he'd do that to his mags.

Folks, I think I figured out at least the gunbroker portion of that poo-colored debacle: the high bidder must have been Gaston Glock... trying to get that damnable abomination out of circulation for good.

Now *that* would be worth 575 any day from Sunday.

He's too frugal for that. I read he used to save hotel room mini toiletries until lately.

I bought a Colt Series 70 that a previous owner had ported (through the slide, bushing, and barrel) just enough to screw up the sight picture but not noticably reduce muzzle rise. After a hundred rounds or so, it would load up enough to require force to get it into battery. Bought it CHEAP, fitted a new barrel and bushing, and it shoots great!

Sadly, I don't have a pic but there's a .22 rifle that's been floating around the local gun shows for a while now that has a very amateur camo paint job. The colors chosen for this abomination were red, yellow, and blue.

It looks like clown sick.

I may offer the guy $50 for it next I see him just so I can strip the poor thing.
