thebangswitch dot come has an article stating that the Kalashnikov arms factory (formerly known as Izmash) will start producing Glock handguns.

Could it finally happen? Could there one day be a baby Glock in 9x18 Makarov caliber? Could there be a full-sized in 7.62x25mm?! :what:
I know we'd never get them here in the U.S. but that would be really neat if we could!

The Russians have signed an agreement with Steyr. As for Glock, it is "expected", according to the newspaper. The chances for a 7.62x25 revival are nil. Nine mm is commonplace even there.

I would think the Austrians and Russians aren't the best of friends, but who knows. Seems like Russia is trying to put itself front and center in the global picture lately.

Mooseman Hmm, would there be an advantage to a Glock in 7.62 x 25 over 357 Sig?

No. 357 Sig is a necked down 40S&W round. 7.62x25 is 25mm long, which is the length of the 10mm. 9x25 Dillon is a necked down 10mm, and can be made to operate at much higher power than 7.62x25, or could be downloaded as well.

The 7.62x25 tokerev would require one of the 10mm frame handguns due to case length while offering less than you can get from 9x25 dillon from the same handgun.

The only benefit would be for cheap surplus, which seems to be mainly dried up or deemed unsuitable for import. The price of most current 7.62x25 does not give much incentive to choose it over something like 9x25 dillon if you want a powerful bottlenecked semi auto pistol round of the same length.

I'd not be surprised. In my last couple of Glock recert classes they mentioned that Glock was trying to set up manufacturing plants in at least a couple of countries to make it easier to sell their guns in those countries. Makes sense.

They didn't mention whether it would involve Glock making any changes to use any foreign military pistol calibers, but then none of us were really interested in hearing any details of that sort of thing, anyway. Nothing to do with US sales. It's not like American LE would adopt foreign service calibers, right? We have enough to do with the calibers we're using, as it is. ;)

As long as those Glocks don't end up in the hands of terrorists or North Koreans. It is not just about Russia. Mr Glock had a hard time back in the 80's denying that he sold them to Libya.

Russia has a large population and as far as I know doesn't import much in the way of small arms.

They don't seem to allow much in the way of civilian firearms ownership either, so I could see issues with potential market size. It could be like the USA with Beretta & FN that they require domestic production of contract military arms.

All the posting about making Glocks in calibers like 7.62X25 is wishful thinking, the Russians adopted the 9mm Luger a while back for pistols to replace the Makarov.

The Russian military already has a domestic production, composite frame, 9mm DA/SA pistol. It is replacing the Mak.

"Why not? They already share lots of attributes with the ubiquois AK. Like simplicity and utter reliability."

I highly doubt that Austrian standards of quality control would be upheld. They don't mind skimping to save money.

But, then again I have my doubts about them being made properly in this country as well.

Russians make excellent, and reliable firearms. They could probably out Glock, Glock. Where is this information coming from?
