My local range had an SA22 #II grade on consignment last Saturday that is absolutely gorgeous. Manufactured in '68 and well cared for its in great shape for being 44 years old. Price.... $475
They also had a '64 grade I SA22 with a bit more wear. Muzzle has that grey look of having been shot a lot at one time and then stored in a safe for some several years. The stock is very plain and the TD nut has a bit of wear as well. The asking price is $375.
Of the two I can't decide. I've always liked the lines of this gun but I need one like I need high collesterol.
Anyone have any experience with these? Any thoughts about the rifle good or bad would be appreciated. Pics would be nice if you have them.

I have a grade 1 that's 22 short only. Very fun to shoot, and accurate.

I'd go with the grade 2 for $475 if it were me. $100 ain't much more to pay in order to get the grade 2 in better condition.

Here's mine, second from top of course.

I'd scrounge up $850... My mother has owned one (Japanese) for several decades and it is a great rifle. Just ordered my 7th rimfire this week, 5 of them rifles, and that little Browning probably bests them all; can't explain how, but it does everything right. If both aren't in the cards, definitely drop the extra coin. $100 is what, the equivalent of a brick of Winchester Wildcats these days? :)

Found another on the used rack today. Has the wheel sight but not near as good a shape as the 1st two. Asking price was $650.
I'll be at the range again tomorrow morning. With a little luck that grade II is coming home with me.

Browning SA-22's are great rifles, I love mine, sounds like fair prices on both of the first two, not so much the third. I guess it would depend on what you want the rifle for....... If the rifles are both not perfect, then they are not really collectable, and you might want to consider the "shooter" factor.
Or..... you could just buy both! ........Pictures or it didn;t happen.

Soonerfan; how many does the short version hold? I have a 1971 model which only shoots .22Lr.
Actually, would have perfered a short version but, this rifle was given to me by a neighbor who said he bought it new in 1971. Not perfect, but one heck of a shooter, and not picky about it's diet.

Dan...the rifle on the bottom is a ZKM BRNO Model 611 in 22WMR. I believe they stopped making these sometime in the 1980s. I bought this one at an estate auction with the original box, factory test target and owner manual. Other than the factory test firing, I don't believe the rifle has been shot. It's been very hard to keep my hands off her, but she's like new and I'm hoping she'll be worth more $ one day.

Sun...I believe my SA holds 16 shorts. First time at the range, I thought she'd malfunctioned as on the first shot I didn't hear anything when I pulled the trigger. With hearing protection on I couldn't hear the 22 shorts firing. Had a good laugh after I realized everything was working as it should. Doesn't take but one range session to learn that shorts and shoes with no socks are a no no when shooting a bottom eject rifle. :D

Sappy, if you don't buy the nice grade II I'm sure there are several of us that would like to have a shot at her. Good luck.

I've owned mine since the early 70's,

It's been a great 22,

They are light, handy and quite accurate,

I no longer shoot it as much as i use to,

But, over the years, it's put a PILE of meat in my freezer for me!

If i was you, i'd buy the grade 2 and enjoy shooting it often!

Woe is me.... I left for the range this morning with an extra rifle case in my truck. Picked up my shooting buddy and he knew exactly what it was for.
Made a B line for the used rack and it was gone..... Both of them.... Gone....
It wasn't meant to be.

Thanks for the pics sooner and DM. What a beautiful rifle.

You will find more, but, maybe not at those prices.
DM, that is sure a beautiful stock on your SA, The guy I got mine from said he paid $150 for it in 1971.
It is not a select grade model, as yours seems to be. If you don't mind telling how much was it back then?

Beautiful rifle soonerfan85! I checked the price on gunbroker and they look to be $1,000 or more and magazines $300 and up. But what a nice rifle.

I bought a SA22 in .22 short and I think I have only been able to put 10 in the tube. I thought it would hold more but that appears to be it. I’ll have to try to drop more in there next time. Mine has never malfunctioned with full power .22 short. And only malfunctioned 2 or 3 times with CCI .22 CB caps and that was in the first 100 rounds. It has since shot thousands of .22 shorts (mainly CB caps) and never stopped.
