I have looked at perhaps twenty or thirty '94s in my price range this week all over Arizona but this was the one. I think I did okay for $395.00, what do you guys think?

Right in front of the trigger, stamped on the receiver is "EZ", not sure if that is the plant is was created at or ?? I love that the barrel is stamped, "Winchester Proof Steel", although I wish it was also stamped with ".30 WCF" instead of "Winchester .30-.30 although I am told those were the 1940s and earlier '94s that were stamped that way. Bore is sharp and mirror shiny and action seems to cycle and fire perfectly although I haven't shot it yet naturally. Can you safely dry fire these?

You have a nice old shooter, congrats!

Winchester 94's are best not dry fired, the tip of the firing pin can break off. I did it once with the first one I owned. When I took it to the gunsmith to get it repaired, the first thing he said to me was "Been dry firing it, haven't you". I was using empty shells, but they quickly dent in with a few hits and do nothing to help. Good snap caps are good, or you can make your own.

Good Looking Winchester! I would call that a good score. I love mine, shoots great feels great. The condition of your furniture feels better, mine was all peely undergoing rehab. If you've any mechanical aptitude they are easy to pull down to the main components for cleaning, if you wanna get all the way in gonna need some small punches and patience.

Thanks for all of the tips and information. Do any of you have a good source to a YouTube or on-line "how to field strip" a model '94 for basic cleaning and maintenance? No dry firing, check!

Don't take it apart. Some of the screws already show signs of buggery. You might create a unnecessary nightmare.

Nice looking Winnie ! Likes been mentioned, don't take it apart, you might be inviting troubles. The top screw on the butt plate, might take a small file and dress that up a smidgen, then some bluing, touch it up with a Q-tip. I've always liked that model, I've got a Big Bore in .375 cal. , its a shooter too ! Enjoy.

Looks like i'm in the minority, but here's my take. If you have the mechanical aptitude take it down and clean it, if you don't take it to someone and have them go through it. To me the wisdom of going through something and checking if it's in good order may be worth 15 bucks ' o bolts for a 60 year old firearm you don't know a thing about. Was it a safe queen, submerged, used as a boat paddle you don't know.

Was it taken apart by someone who didn't have all the right tools... looks like it, but they stopped short of drilling and tapping that's a good sign.

Pull the stock off, spray the heck out of the interior with Gunscrubber, (I use brake clean),let it dry or use compressed air, then spray all areas with Rem-Oil or similar and set back in a corner action down, after a day put the stock back on.

Nice rifle. It looks like it's been down a few trails - which is exactly how these old rifles should look.

Two safety tips when carrying it loaded. 1. Never bring the hammer from full cock to half cock. Take the hammer all the way down and then bring it back to half cock. Coming from full cock to half cock the sear may not always engage the safety notch.
2. When caring it make sure that the lever is just slightly ajar. You will note that there is a pin that is depressed by the lever that blocks the trigger when carried in this manor. Other then that the Four rules for gun safety applies.

I have a 1949 Winchester .30 WCF. It is a joy to shoot and to hunt with.

Looks to be in great shape, given when it was built. Did really well with the price too. Hope it shoots as nice as it looks.
