I dont know what the types of holsters are. Some Are obvious like IWB etc. But I dont know what a pancake and many others are.
I am in the market for two holsters.
First, I work late alone at my own business. I want to open carry my PA-63 so its available should I need it. I want a right hand belt holster that allows me very quick access. Doesnt have to be pretty, should be inexpensive.
Second I need a hunting holster for a 460xvr, 8-3/8 inch barrel with a scope. I will probably end up with the S&W nylon holster. But I would like some alternatives. IMO it would be easiest to carry this on a over the shoulder chest type rig.
BTW- I live in NJ so neither of these will ever see use outside of what I just described.

For the big revolver, Simply Rugged is often recommended by those that carry those big things.

They offer their "Chesty Puller System" that will allow their belt holsters to be carried on the chest. http://www.simplyrugged.com

The best way is to Google search terms such as "holster manufacturers" and look at respective sites such as Don Hume.

Terms like "pancake holster" describe a basic design. Many holster makers make variations of the basic design which the user may find fits their needs better.

JTQ's reference to Horseshoe Leather is spot on. This is the most comprehensive description of the various holster designs I have found. And the quality of Mr. Arratonian's holsters is worth the wait.

I believe Barsony makes a leather thumb-break holster for the PA63. They are not too expensive (~$35?) and I prefer at least some sort of retention on an OC holster.

I'd probably go with some sort of vertical shoulder or diagonal cross chest rig for this monster. Something like the Galco Kodiak Hunter is a nice choice, if you want leather and don't mind spending close to $200.

If that's too dear, I know that there's a company named Skyball Mountain Holster that makes inexpensive nylon holsters for big, scoped revolvers. I can't comment on their quaility though as I've never handled one. They seem to sell mainly though eBay.
