Anyone have an FNX 45?

I have a FNP and I love it. Gonna pick up the FNX45 next.

Why yes I do. I am taking this from a post I made to another member that asked about the FNX-45

Reliability: I have over 500 rounds through mine (haven't had it very long) with no malfunctions. I don't know for sure that it will always be 100%, but all indications point to yes.

Durability: I haven't abused this gun, but it seems to be very durable. Note that you CAN NOT detail strip the gun. It was made so that it is NOT user serviceable beyond a simple field strip. (unless I don't know about it)

Accuracy: It is more accurate than I am for sure. Accuracy is not even worth talking about when humans are a variable.

Ergos: It is a really big gun. I mean really big. Huge. 15 rounds of .45 acp in a magazine. That being said, it is comfortable to hold and a verryyy soft shooter. The DA trigger pull is extremely heavy. My Sig 226 trigger is 12 lbs and the FNX trigger is even heavier. It is very smooth. The SA trigger is pretty light. The break is analogous to a rubber band snapping.

WEIGHT: The gun weighs 34 oz unloaded. Each loaded magazine weighs about 1 pound. 34+16= 50 oz loaded. If you'd like to have two extra magazines like me, then you're carrying a total of 50+16+16= 82 OUNCES. That is 5.125 pounds. Carrying that is not fun. Not fun at all. Even if you don't carry any extra magazines, you've got a 3.125 lb smoke wagon on your side.

Overall Experience: The gun is a blast to shoot (no pun intended). It is too freaking heavy. Wayyy too freaking heavy. Every bit of the gun they could make out of polymer is made of polymer. The safety/decocker is polymer. It feels like a lot cheaper of a gun than the price you will pay for one, IMO. This is very apparent when comparing to the predecessor, the FNP, which used to retail for around $400. Neither the manufacturing process, quality, or materials changed with the FNX, but boy the price sure did. Edit: Finding magazines in the color you purchased the gun in for a reasonable price ($50 is not reasonable to me for one mag) is difficult.
I like the gun. It's uses are limited (for me) to either a range gun, home defense, or a truck gun. It is not useful to me in any situation where it needs to be carried.

This is all coming from someone used to carrying a Glock 19, which is very lightweight compared to the FNX. If I was coming from a 1911, my opinions would be different, especially about the weight.

The FNX is by design a full size duty pistol. 15 rounds of 230gr JHPs are a force to be reckoned with, carrying the same payload as 30 9mm 115and JHPs. It is in the same size category as a full size HK or G21.

I will have mine back from FN on Tuesday as it had a frame blemish that I was not happy with. It took a month and a half of waiting, but I will have a new replacement from FN on the UPS truck.

I have an FNP45.

I have two issues with the gun.

It is picky on ammo. It doesn't like cheap target ammo that may be slightly out of spec. I believe these tolerance issues were addressed in the newer FNX line. I may be wrong about that though and would need someone else to confirm it. I've never had any feeding problems with high quality defense ammo though.

The other issue is that despite the gun being large, I'm a bigger guy with long fingers. The tip of my trigger finger tends to hit the "extended magazine release" when pulling the trigger. That gets painful after awhile.

All other aspects of the gun are positive.

My duty carry the last couple of years has been a FNP45 Tactical with a Trijicon RMR02. It's a great gun, accurate and 100% reliable regardless of ammo. The DA pull on mine isn't bad, 10lbs maybe, I carry mine cocked and locked so it's not really an issue anyway. SA pull is good, not 1911 good but way better than a Glock or M&P. The frame has the same geometry as a 1911 so it points very naturally. The grip is bad for the size of the mag, especially with the flat backstrap in place, definitely smaller around than a Glock 20. I don't find the weight to be an issue, my gun, loaded with 16 230gr rounds with the red dot sight on it weighs less than my full size Springfield 1911 loaded with 9rds of ammo. The loaded mags weigh about the same as two loaded 1911 mags, no big deal to me since I carried 4 mags when I was carrying a 1911. Plus it has the added benefits of second strike capability, ambi everything, safety/decocker, C1 carry capable, comes with 3 mags, and probably some other stuff I'm forgetting. IMO, it is one of the best, if not the best, duty and/or home defense gun available (in either the FNP or FNX configuration).

I have the FNX-45. I find it to be excellent. It has very low recoil, I was surprised when I shot it for the first time. It has less recoil than my Ruger SR1911. It is very accurate, easily putting all shots on a 3x3" Post-It note at 5 yards. The sights are set perfectly at 25 yards. The DA trigger is fine, The SA trigger is very nice. I have about 400 rounds through mine, and had just one slight glitch around the first or second magazine. It hesitated to chamber a round. It chambered, but just hesitated for a split second. Other than that, its been perfect. I like that it can be carried cocked and locked, and can be cocked with the safety on. Its also a decocker. It has all the best features, and comes with 3 magazines. I am very happy with mine.

ok... I have probably 2,000 rounds through my FNP.

I've never had an issue with it shooting everything from Tula to Federal.

I'm an accurate but very relaxed shooter. (shooting calms me down) I have to remember to tighten up my grip when I shoot my G19 or the limp wrist will consistently cause a failure to feed. Never had that issue with FNP.
