Thank you to everyone with their great comments/opinions, to me that's what this all about the freedom to express what ever you think good or bad with helpful hints and tips and the enjoyment of revolvers.

Beautiful gun. Great story. Even if it does offend some blissninny antigunner.

Oro, Beautiful gun and rig you got there, very nice. That rig looks like the one I saw Hickok45 was using in one of his you tube videos about the Smith and Wesson 629 4" 44 mag.

Yeah, that is a 3" N from them (or 3.5", too). That is also a 629-1 in the pic, a "Lew Horton" from 1985-ish. Love that gun. I have 4", too, it is a 29-2 c. 1970, nickel. Love it, too.

I have not seen that video of his, I've watched a few of his and he is a great gun guy. In fact, we are doing a range like his on my dad's property, have built a back stop w/railroad ties close in for .22s and pistols, now I want to go "across the creek" 90 degrees next year with some rifle targets and metal gongs, etc. Nothing on his scale, but a poor man's version.

Here is another pic of the El Paso, and also the .45 one. These are sweet holsters and if you can drop $700 on that gun, get one for it. I hate paying a lot for leather but these are worth it.

Actually I know a leathersmith in Alabama who might do you one custom for a slightly better price. I actually loaned him mine to pattern so he is tooled up for it; I know for a fact. ;) PM me (or better yet email) if that interests you.

OH, here's his website, just tell him I sent you please:

Like many gun people, he is "good people."

I can't find a pic of the 1911 tanker but it's similar and a great carry rig (open, obviously); I used it today and will again tomorrow.

Last summer I lusted after a 629-1 6" for a few weeks that was on a local trader's forum here in Georgia. The guy wanted $800 and I wanted the gun bad enough. He threw in 100 rounds of jacketed hollow point ammo. I think I paid a little too much but I'm very happy with it and that's what matters. I think you got a steal.

I have no idea what is wrong with him relating his story... Bizarre.

On a constructive note, I like Deaf Smith's choice in leather (and his former county sherrif ;) ). Highly recommend a El Paso Tanker; I have one for a 1911 and this one for my 629 and 27. Need one for a 4 and 5" N frame, too. They aren't cheap, but the ARE worth the money.

Outstanding!

And that is a mighty good snub you have there! Pity I traded off my S&W 'Backpacker' .44 along time ago!

Say Oro, are you talking about Skeeter Skelton (Deaf Smith County), or J.B. Smith (Sheriff of Smith Country), or even Larry Smith (current sheriff of Smith Country.)

Skeeter was very fond of 'Tom Threeperson' holsters! I was reading 'Me and Joe' back when I was in High School... 1970!

Yea we have alot of 'smiths' here in Texas.

about Skeeter Skelton (Deaf Smith County),

I need to re-read his old books/collections again, it has been a few years. I bought another copy of "Good Guns..." for a friend for a Christmas present just last week.

Your pic has inspired me the put the wood grips back on and see if they still tear me up 25 years later.

I'm sure they will. ;) I don't shoot magnums through it often with those grips on it. .44 Special is fine though.

Right!

Most of my .44s are P+ .44 Specials. My deer loads are Cor-Bon DPX 225 gr. JHPs at 1100 fps from a 4 inch barrel (they are NOT max loads.) I can control them quite fine.

To bad the blued tone is not factory, it is very nice looking. I, just might have one of the aftermarket ''blueer's'' go with that tone on one of my stainless gun's.
