What was/is your first carry gun

The first I bought and used as a CCW for a time was my XDm 3.8" in .40 S&W. The first I bought specifically for that purpose and still carry was an XDsc .40. Love that thing.

I the first three or four years, I went through 15 or 20 different carry guns. Now I am about nine years down the road and the total is probably approaching 50. Fortunately, I can afford to own more than one at a time, and buy one, sell one...
But these days, I haven't bought or sold a carry gun in the last three-four years.
To answer your question directly, my first was a Glock G23. I carried it for a while, and could never get comfortable with it. It was a brick. I have owned (and sold) several double stacks since then.

If I die one day due to insufficient ammo capacity, you may mark my grave as such. In the mean time, I will comfortably carry a single stack 1911, and will live (and die) with the ammo capacity it affords.

My first was a Charter Arms Undercover 38 special in 1975. Couldn't hit the ground with that gun so it was used for just a few years before I switched to an auto.

My first carry gun was my first gun, a Kahr K9, back in '97. I sold it, bought another, sold it, bought a CW9, sold it, repeated that a few more times, and my current carry gun is a CW9. I kept selling the Kahrs when something shiny and new came along, but then I keep coming back to them. I think I'm going to stick with this one.

The first pistol I owned was a Springfield XD-SC in .40S&W. A fantastic firearm I sometimes wish I had kept.

I guess my first 'carry gun' was a Ruger Standard .22 pistol when I was 15 in 1959.

And it was one of the only handguns in my life I actually came very close to having to shoot someone with while on a fishing vacation in South Dakota with my folks.
But that's a long story I won't get into.

My second was a WWI surplus S&W 1917 .45 revolver in 1961 I no longer have.

My 3rd. was a S&W .357 Highway Patrolman in 1962 I no longer have.

My first off-duty weapons were a Colt Commander (steel "Combat" model) and a Ruger Security-Six 4" stainless.

I still own the Commander, but haven't carried it in years, as it was mostly retired in favor of a Star PD & a Ruger KP-90DC, followed by a 3 1/2" Colt Officers Model and a couple of 5" models. Nowadays, for .45 pistols I usually choose from a couple of 3rd gen S&W's or a M&P 45.

Of that first Security-Six, and the many Security, Service & Speed-Sixes that followed it, I only own a Service-Six 4" HB which was tuned & ported by MagNaPort (although I reinstalled the factory main spring after the tuning job). I wish I'd kept more of them (especially a blued Speed-Six that I foolishly let slip away).

First was a Sig P232 that my father gave to me at 21 when I got my carry permit.

I no longer carry it much, but do still love the look and feel of that beautifully made little handgun.

I got my first carry permit around '97 and carried what I had, a Star Firestar. I had no idea about holsters and such so I stuck it in my belt. Then I found the internet and all that changed! :)

Many years ago, I was stationed in Spain. That was the first place I carried concealed. Firearm was a Llama Comanche in .357.

First one as a civilian was a Smith & Wesson Model 60.

A Colt woodsman 22 , 4" barrel , custom grips . Long gone. [50 yrs. ago ]Since then it could be almost anything , depending on what I've bought / sold lately .

My first was a Colt SAA 5.5" in .357, the only handgun I owned for quite a while. Nowadays it's a PF9 or a Makarov. Also have a NIB Taurus TCP that I may carry after I get a chance to shake it down.

Still have the Colt, it is semi-retired to range duty only.

1st Carry Series 70 Gov't Model 1911...still carry a 1911 (including the original) in one variant or another and the occasional service 4" revolver.

XD 45 Compact. It was a nice pistol but didn't conceal terribly well. It has since been replaced with a Cimarron 1911 or a S&W Safety Hammerless ("Lemon Squeezer") depending on my mood/clothing/area of town I'm going to.

SP101 in .357 with a 3" bll. Still carry it now at times.

Switched to a XDs. Easier to carry in every way with 6 shots instead of 5. Both rounds are effective for carry. Love both but prefer the XDs for CC.

Carried a j frame for awhile too but the XDs beets that out IMO too. Though the j frame carried in the pocket a little better than the XDs.

Mine was also a Kahr K9. I never developed a love for it, it was replaced by a Ruger SP-101. Seemed heavy for only 5 rounds, particularly since I stoked it with .38 +Ps. Went with a 637, followed closely by a 642. Rented a Glock 19 just to see what all the fuss was about. Immediately lost my aversion to polymer guns. Bought one at the gun show that weekend. Carried it ever since. Unless I am pocket carrying. Then it's the 642.

Stoeger Cougar 9MM. Now I carry either a Colt DS made in 75, a CZ 83 or 82 depending on which side of the bed I get up on.

My first CCW was a Browning Hi-Power. I carried it for around 20 years. Now I alternate between an HK USP and an HK P30S, or a Beretta Nano if maximum concealability is the primary concern. Someday I will probably add the BHP back into the mix but it needs a bit of work done to it, and I no longer own a satisfactory holster for it.
