DM,

That might just be the "one gun" that would do the trick! Pricey, but beautiful.

Well, I'm know for sure that the SKS was designed with 40 below temps in mind....that's why it throws the brass so dang far.

Well, i paid $350.00 for it in 1983, but i "fixed it up a little" after that... :)

The reason folks "think" they are so pricy is, they always see the higher grade models, covered with engraveing ect... There's LOT's of drillings available today at "around" 2K, and with most guys today bragging how many guns they have, they easily could own a drilling instead of 2 or 3 of something else.

The reason you see so many drillings in 16ga. is, they are built on the 20ga. frame and that makes them light and handy... The ones built on a 12ga. frame are MUCH heavier and i just don't like them at all.

I will admit, there's some junk drillings out there, so make sure you know what you are buying!

Surely, a drilling is on my "someday" list :D

Ruger is a VERY popular maker in the Arctic, Mini-14's , 10/22's, single six's, MKII's and such, M-77's and every flavor of high power pistol they make.

Lever guns are popular, but hard to carry on a snowmachine, as they tend to di on your back and sides.Alotta guys do use them from a boat, slung in summer. Most try to find a commonly available caliber.

For years I carried and used an M-700ADL in .243Winchester, 100 grain Rem corelocks by the case. I took off the cheek , the comb, shortend and slimmed the front and trimmed an inch inna half from the buttstock, for all the clothes Im usually wearing. I took the bead off the front sight , then squared that up, and leveled the rear sight, put a v notch and deep blued, then spray painted the metals with Rustolium on all the metal, as I was in a salt air environment..... and remounted the sling.

Perfect combination in everyday carrieability, accuracy out to 400 yards and penatrateing power with bullet retention untill bone or death did it part. The gun was my "Death Ray" but saddly drownd in a boat flip on a log inthe river....I still miss that rifle.....
