Im thinking about doing an even trade of my glock 26 w/2 10rd mags and a g19 mag for a new post recall xds 9 w/2 7rd mags and a 9rd mag, box and accessories.

I like and trust my glock and shoot it well and usually carry it in winter. The only thing thing I dont like is the grip. I have smaller hands(short fingers) and find it difficult to grip single handed. A 2 handed grip is fine but with a single handed grip my fingers barely reach the side of the grip(see attd pic). My concern is if I were ever in a struggle with an attacker they might be able to wrestle the 26 out of my hand. I have been checking out single stack 9's at my lgs and really like the size of the xds 9 and shield, they both fit my hand much better than the glock. I usually dont like to trade or sell guns but price wise I think trading the g26 for the xds make sense. So what do you guys think?

Sorry for the bad iphone pic

The G26 is a little thick for us with short fingers. Interestingly the G19 and G23 fit my hand better. The Shield practically was built for people with small hands. The XDs is a decent trade but I would strongly consider a Shield first.

I have the XDs .45 and it is my EDC. I find it to be the perfect concealed carry gun for my needs. It is easy to shoot well, reliable, and very easy to conceal. I think that if you trade the G26 for a XDs, you will be happy with it.

My grip happens to fall similarly to yours, but since it functions reliably and I shoot it accurately I could never give up the 26 even if I wanted to try something else.

You could test your retention concerns with a replica, an airsoft, or your 26 with a training barrel and a friend. Keep in mind that there's more to retention than grip. In most cases, a shooter who can't retain a sub-compact pistol from someone trying to snatch it will have an equally difficult time retaining a smaller pistol.

Based on that picture, I think you have a valid concern, though you may be worrying a bit too much. JMO.

All in all though, I don't care for GLOCKS myself. I can shoot one well but they feel wrong in my hand and lack any style for my taste. My XDs does it's job very well, and I completely agree with post #3.

On that note though, if the GLOCK is a good shooter, you may want to buy the XDs, put a few hundred rounds through it to try it out first, before ditching the GLOCK. If you can afford to that is.

Good luck

It's hard to tell from the picture but it looks like a Gen 3. Have you ever tried a Gen 4? It's a little smaller towards the bottom and might help your ring and pinky fingers to get a little further around.

Just like my hand position. Don't give up yer G26...test shoot an XD-S as they are way worth the addition. I wouldn't personally trade my G26 for anything.

Buy/shoot the XD-S. Keep the G26 if you possibly can is my opinion.

Good choice. Now you just have to choose between 2 nice carry pistols. I was doing the same thing. I was set on a Shield 9mm, until I was shown the XDs in .45. The step up to a .45 is what sold me on the XDs.

After shooting both... it's still a tough decision. I shot a friend's Shield well and found the trigger to be better than the XDs out of the box. If a 9mm is what you want (or what I had wanted), the Shield is tough to beat. I've only put 120 rounds through the new XDs... but the pistol never failed and every round was where I wanted it. It's an easy pistol to control, which initially surprised me.

Check out Talon grips for the G26. I have small hands and shoot with the standard mags and don't miss the pinky finger at all. I have the granulate (skateboard deck tape) version and have well over 3,000 rounds on my Gen 3 since putting the grip on.

I have 4 Glocks and all 4 have Grip Modifications and Finger Grooves removed. I to have small hands and fingers but after the finger grooves are removed as I did myself to my G26, it is so much better to grip and I shoot more accurately. I will never get rid of my Glocks!

Keep the G26, ditch the mag extension, add Hogue or Pachmayr grip sleeve trimmed to length, and learn to shoot with the pinkie finger curled underneath.

Also you could add the G.A.P. Enterprises flat mag floorplate. This setup feels more solid to me and I have average sized hands. My G27 and G33 are configured this way as well...

Thanks for the suggestions but Yea, Ive tried all that except removing the finger grooves and rear hump. I liked shooting with the talon grips but they were way too rough against my skin when carrying(both sandpaper and rubber). I use to have gap floor plates but sold them... I prefer the standard flat base plates. Also I use to have the hogue handall grip on my g17 but it make the grip fatter...I need a skinnier grip to be able to get my short fingers around.

I thought about sending the 26 off a couple years ago to have the finger grooves removed along with the rear hump but never got around to it. It might be time to finally get that done. SK2344, if you dont mind will you post some pics of your grip chop or either pm them to me. How difficult was it? Did you use a soldering iron?

Thanks again guys, im keeping the 26 but definitely going to pick up either a shield or xds as soon as i can make up my mind which one.

I am an XD owner, but something about a Glock 26 and a 33 round magazine if needed makes for a pretty awesome personal defense gun. One thing about the Glock that Springfield failed to do was make their mags interchangeable. That is a fail in my opinion.

Full size XD mags will work in their sub compact counterparts. The full size XD-9 mags work in the XD-9sc, XD-40 mags in the XD-40sc, XD-45 mags work in the XDsc, etc. The XDm mags also interchange with other XDm models of the same caliber. The XDm 3.8 can use full size XDm 4.5 mags.

The only interchange that doesn't work is regular XD mags with XDm mags, unless it's a .45. The .45 XD and XDm use the same magazine.

The mags do interchange, so I wouldn't call it a fail. Pretty much identical to a Glock in that respect.

good to know. I thought they were all made for each model. I have an XD9 from 2007. Seriously thought they were all for each model.

But that still isn't the same as any Glock 9 mag fitting any Glock 9mm handgun, etc.

EB1,

It is not so much a design flaw, it is a design feature. It is single-stack vs double-stack magazines and directly relates to the grip thickness of the pistol.

It is probably most akin to the Glock .45 series. A Glock 30 can take a Glock 21 magazine, but none of them interchange with a Glock 36 magazine. The Glock 36 is single-stack and the others are double-stack.

People have been crying for Glock to make a single-stack subcompact or micro for years now, and IF they ever do, it will not interchange with a Glock 26, 19, 17, etc for magazines either. That is the price one pays for super-thin and compact pistols. It's also worth noting, a Glock 26 magazine cannot function in a Glock 19 or Glock 17. Likewise a Glock 19 magazine cannot function in a Glock 17.

Likewise, if I'm not mistaken, the S&W Shield has its own hybrid 1.5-stack type thing (?). Pretty sure it will not interchange with any other M&P magazines.

I switched from a G27 to a XDs .45. Started with my Glock and I cannot bring myself to get rid of it. Have a .22 and 9mm conversions for it. You are correct about the large capacity mags in a G26/27. They are fun. Actually have 2 XDs in 45. One is pre recall and one is post recall. I actually like the trigger on the post recall XDs. Also I do not use any mag grips or sleeves on my extended mags for any of my pistols. I prefer to use then just the way they are. Like my Glocks but my EDC is the XDs.

Have tried the compact Glocks in .45 and I ended up selling them. The .45 Glocks tear me up to where I do not enjoy shooting them. I do not miss any of the compact Glocks that I have tried.

My grip on my 26 is very similar. I've never thought about not having enough grip. I think the only guns
I have that I can fully grip and would be j and k frame revolver.
Great now I have something new to worry about
