So I am getting better at making grips

Well I could not have the ugly Italian orange grips on my walker so yesterday I started some burl walnut

Thanks Bull. The biggest problem with doing grips for other folks is that they really need to be individually fitted to the gun. Heck I'm sure Rugers are a lot more uniform than the Italian imports. That being said the grips I made for my two ROA's will not interchange between guns. :scrutiny:

That walnut looks great! Are you making the grips one solid piece or gluing them up from three pieces?

I'll be cheating and gluing them up from 3 pieces. I had a very limited supply of the burl and I wanted both sides to be pretty;) The fact that I am a rank amateur and don't really have inletting tools has nothing to do with it:rolleyes::uhoh:

Thanks Jax. I am no great shakes as a wood dude, just a carpenter. Heck every set I make gets better. It just takes practice.

Look good. I can finish them, final sand and oil finish, but not shape them. Be happy to trade some burl walnut for shaping a set for me if you want

Thanks all y'all. I'll look into doing a video. Crawdad I just started using Watco Danish oil. I like the way it works and feels. Also it dries well.

Beautiful burl wood.........nice job. I've given some thought to ivory (micarta or the impregnated stuff). Any ideas or knowledge of suppliers?

RT Research soft ivory swirl - it polishes beautifully and looks just like the antique bark ivory grips on page 42 of the winter 2013 issue of GOTOW magazine

Thanks, I'll look them up. Just followed the posted link to percussion revolvers. Great!
I'm sure I'm going to like that website.

This is antique paper micarta from Sheffield Knifemaker's Supply. It's a dead ringer for the old Westinghouse variety.
