Hey everybody,

I'm working on a 300 blackout ar build right now and am trying to find a good short barrel that won't break the bank. I've stumbled across a few people talking about grim reaper tactical out of Oregon. People seem to give positive reviews, but I haven't seen too many people mention them. Anybody have any experience with them or their barrels?

To give you an idea of how it will be used, I plan to use it with mostly SuperSonics for now until I get a can for it. I probably will be running some subsonics through it,so I would like it to be able to run reliably unsuppressed with both Super Sonic and subsonic loads.

thank you :)

well a gun company by the name of "grim reaper tactical" just sounds like something a group of call of duty kids might come up with, so i doubt many people would do businesses with them.. and the "grim reaper" is symbolism for death.. most people here dont advocate killing others.. ive never heard of them, now that i have ive also discovered they dont offer any products you cant find by much more reputable companies.. just more cookie cutter run of the mill AR-15 parts it looks like

Are you looking for peer validation for the product you've chosen?

GRT is not the only place offering 300 BLK barrels, but if they are local, affordable and have what you want, go for it. As with anything, its a roll of the dice.

I'm not one to judge a book by its cover or a company by its name. I am interested in a 300 blackout barrel
Sounds like Halloween bedtime story. Let us know what you get and if it works for you.

i looked at their website and i just dont see anything on there you cant get from not just one other reputable company, but many different reputable companies, so if i was buying a product they offered the question would be why from them and not someone more established?

I had heard a few good things about them and they are local, so I was considering giving them my business, but I'm also leery of companies that I haven't heard of. I was just wondering if anyone had any personal experience with them. I looked around yesterday at some other forms and saw some people complaining about having their money taken and then waiting upwards of 9 months without hearing anything or receiving anything. I think I'll look into other options.

Walkalong- how has that barrel been working out for you? I've looked at those a little bit and they seem to have a good price with positive reviews. And yes, I am looking for something around a 9 inch barrel

Handloads, and yes, that is a cherry picked group. I usually get in a hurry and let one, or two, hang out worse. It is easily capable of < 1MOA with good loads and good conditions. And poor conditions if your patient.

I've learned that sometimes you should.
I suppose that's probably true. Does anybody have any other barrels they have used that they can share their experience with, good or bad?

I've also considered core 15, palmetto state armory, and cmmg. Cmmg sounded like a hit or miss though

I personally know the owner, his name is Zack. He started the business while we was in the military service several years ago. He makes quite a variety of equipment, including suppressors and parts for custom sniper type rifles. He makes lower receivers for AR's, but I can't say anything about the barrels he sells. I would not hesitate ordering from him and doing business with him. I have a 300 Blackout I didn't buy from him, but I would have if I would have known he was selling them. He attends all of our local gun shows and has quite a display of firearms and related equipment. His shop is located in Klamath Falls about 3 miles from my home. Sorry I didn't see your post sooner.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'll keep doing more poking and prodding and I'll let you know what I finally decide on.

Nite Ryder- would you happen to know if he ever makes it out to the gun shows at the expo center?

Just a guess, but I'd assume grim reaper is sourcing their barrels from one of the few major barrel makers, just like most brands do.

As for ranier, I have no experience with them, but my knee-jerk reaction is that they are decent stuff.

sota arms has some of the cheapest 300aac barrels I have come across, but I would either buy the one walkalong posted or one of these http://www.300blktalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=179&t=85958 it's a mossberg barrel, probably just like this one http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XATIB300AAC

Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware that diamondback was making blackouts. I guess I forgot to mention that I'm looking for a barrel under 10". Sorry for skipping that detail. That is probably somewhat important

300 Blackout barrels

Good evening.

My name is Jason Klein and I am a gunsmith at Grim Reaper Tactical. I will try and clear up a few things.

#1: We are a legitimate business dealing in custom rifles and custom rifle parts.

#2: Zack, the owner, is a full time Air Guardsman at our local base and close to retirement. His hours at the shop do fluctuate with demands on him from the government. He tries very hard to keep regular hours so people can drop by. He is not a young kid that plays video games, did not pull that name from C.O.D. or some other such electronic device.

#3: I chamber and machine the AR barrels that leave the shop. I do use an unturned barrel blank. I then cut to length, chamber, headspace, then thread, taper, and machine each surface of each barrel. Finally, I install a barrel extension, drill the gas port, then install a low profile gas block (built by us). Our barrels are not built anywhere or chambered by anyone else.

#4: Grim Reaper Tactical is the business name chosen by the owner. He did not choose that name to please anyone but himself.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to email me here. I will get back to your questions/comments/concerns as soon as I can.

Thank you for your time!

Jason

Thanks for the reply Jason! ISorry for my last response, I haven't been around these parts lately.

I'm very heavily considering buying one of your barrels still. I need to do some heavy pondering first.

I am almost done with my build guys! I'll post pics when I'm done

Well, I wound up springing for a seekins precision barrel from AIM. I just finished building my pistol today. Now I'm just waiting on a muzzle device and some sights and she'll be good to go. I'll post pics when I get completely done.

By the way, anyone looking to sell sb15 arm brace? ;)
