According to Numrich Gunparts Corp. Colt may be planing to reintoduce some of their “classic” double-action/hand ejector revolvers. However no detailed information was provided. Make of it whatever you will. Clearly they can’t make them like they used to and sell them for what most of the potential market would accept. Maybe new technolagy, foreign manufacture, or some redesigning may save the day. We'll have to wait and see.

Colt has plans to produce their classic series of double action revolvers, which have been dormant for more than a decade. Colt’s VP of Marketing, Joyce Rubino, was recently asked if Colt would ever reintroduce double action revolvers. Rubino stated “I certainly hope so.” What model will be first? The Python? Anaconda? Detective Special? Time will tell!

I'd love to see them reintroduce the New Service and Detective Special but none of the rest interest me in the least. I think the Python is overrated.

Colt seems to have ran from the revolver business and I personally would love to see some new wheelguns from colt. With the increase in conceal carry a new version of the bankers special might not be a bad idea.

Colt has hinted for quite a while that they are considering making another DA revolver. But even if, and thats a BIG if, they were to make one, it certainly wouldn't be the old pattern guns. They're simply NOT economically feasable in todays market. I suspect any new entry from colt would more closely resemble the anaconda, the king cobra, or the magnum carry. These guns with their cheaper (more S&W like) actions would be far more easy to manufacture. And would almost certainly contain parts produced through modern technologies like MIM and CNC. The purists would chafe at the thought but thats the state of the manufacturing world today.
BTW "hand ejector" is a S&W name. The Colt you're probably thinking of is more likely a Police positive special, Detective special or an Official police.

If they'd get busy in the nice factory they have up the road, paying $25/hr local instead of $75/hr UAW rate in Connecticut, classic wheelguns are easily doable. I pass by regularly, nothing's changed since the "royal blue" awning went up over the door a year and a half ago. Joe

Dframe,

Whether it is strictly according to Hoyle or not, the term "hand ejector" has found it's way into common usage meaning any double action swing out cylinder revolver. It is useful for folks to keep our feet to the fire of proper usage, otherwise "speaking the King's" would go to hell eventually. I tend in most instances to favor what is pragmatically effective, and we knew what the Old Fuff meant.

I do appreciate your contribution and can you pass me a Kleenex to wipe this Coke bottle off? Not that one, the root beer.

It's no secret that Colt management has discussed building a new DA revolver, and it seems to be more a matter of what and when than IF.

Best guess is that it will be a small frame stainless revolver similar to the Magnum Carry to take advantage of the CCW market.
Small DA revolvers have been making a comeback in the CCW market and are selling better then they have for years.
With the small automatic being King for some years, a lot of people are rediscovering that a small revolver has a lot to offer as a carry gun.

Five or six years ago I talked to Joyce about Colt DA revolvers.
She said it's the most asked question she gets at SHOT & other similar events, Colt has been considering the idea of another DA revolver for quite a while.
The Python was not & will not be that revolver.

A few months back I checked with my Colt rep, nothing new he was aware of on any new DA revolver coming out.

No mention has been made in conversations with her then or two other Colt reps since about ANY of the "classic" DAs coming back.

During that conversation back then she quoted a figure of $1500 per as an estimated sale price Colt would have to charge on a new Python.

With costs going up since, and the skilled labor inside Colt continuing to dwindle, you'd be looking at a minimum of $2000 at street prices IF Colt could pull it off.
And they couldn't make the gun profitable.

This has all be cussed & discussed ad nauseum, it will not happen.
There may someday be a new Colt DA, but it will not be any of the older V-Spring classics.

So again we agree, and what I know and what you posted are the same.

Please notice exactly what Colt’s Marketing VP said in answering that question about future revolver production: “I certainly hope so.” That isn’t exactly 100% positive, and there is no clue about what might be forthcoming. Nowhere do those words suggest that past models would be reintroduced.

If one looks at what activity is still left in the handgun market it is clear that the brightest spot is .38 Special/.357 Magnum snubbies. If (big “if”) that is the direction they are looking whatever comes out will be something developed starting with a clean sheet of paper, and it won’t necessarily duplicate anything made in the past.

its like the company that was taking orders to make a reproduction late 1800s revolver with a frame that rotated to eject casings.

Its just not going to happen. Dont forget, you can buy a genuine "colt". But its going to cost you 1500 for that single action revolver.
Sure its made on cnc machining, only takes 30 minutes to make the parts save barrel and cylinder for a single gun. And needs some handfitting.

but the italians are making just as good versions for a small percentage of that cost. Gosh, 1500 right now could get me 3 piettas.

If they make the kind of modern, stainless steel, rubber gripped, fiber optic sight crap that has become the hallmark of S&W, they won't get any of my money. I don't have to have the hand-fitted lockwork of the Python but it would be nice to see a well finished retro New Service or Officer's Model Match.

A new Colt SAA shouldn't be more than $1200-$1300, even the New Frontier should cost you less than $1500. Even so, I can't think of three Uberti's or Pietta's I'd trade my $1200 USFA for.

I see no reason why a series of guns using the King Cobra and Anaconda style actions would not sell well. They should have similar cost to current S&W and Ruger offerings.

THE REASON IS NOBODY---NOBODY---is buying revolvers anymore to speak of. We have a brand new million dollar indoor shooting range here in town where we go three times a week and burn up 800+ rounds. IN all that time my wife and I are the ONLY sixgun shooters there. YOU CANNOT GIVE AWAY DA SIXGUNS ANYMORE other than snubbies no one wants to shoot evidently. This range has well over 20M bucks in rental guns on the wall and ALL of 'em are shellshuckers except for one SR GP100 [sp101?] no one ever rents or even looks at.
Damn sad isn't it ??!!!
And so it goes...
PS: COLT cannot compete with RUGER in any way shape or form, never has, never will, and eventually will take ALL of COLT's civialian market just like they have done to every other gun company worth mentioning.
" COMPETITION IS A RACE SOMEONE HAS TO LOSE ! "

I agree that semi's sell more than wheel guns, but here in Denver, the local shops and big boxes (like Sportsmans Warehouse) move a steady stream of revolvers. A hot seller right now are the 3' GP-100s- something that Colt could easily duplicate with the King Cobra platform.

I'd really like to see the Shooting Master -- the New Service with adjustable sights. I'd buy one so quick it would make your head spin!

Shooting Master, New Service (especially in .44 Spl), Officer's Match, OP, Army Special, PPS, 3-5-7, Trooper, Dick Special, Python (I disagree with you on this one, CraigC, but I respect your opinion), Cobra, Agent, and make a scaled up Python in .44 Mag.

These are things I'd like to see.

I hope they DO start making wheelguns again! Perhaps that would bring some good used ones to the used market, where I'll be waiting.
