Compact 45 for CCW that isn't a G36 or 1911?

+2. I have a PT-745 (single stack) and it is much better than expected. I did have the "mag drop" issue. Taurus replaced the mag catch & spring less than a week. Since repair it has been flawless for 600 rounds.
One of my sons little college co-ed friends preferred the PT-745 over a Beretta M9. Smaller gun fitting her hand trumped less 9mm recoil.

Been eying up one of these STI Elektra in 45 acp.

H&K USPC in .45acp.

Then would be the 4516-2. These have been my BET MY LIFE ON for A LONG time.

The Taurus 145 is a compact package that many find excellent.

Well, those ARE actually 2 that are mainstays in my rotation.

If S&W makes a 45c, that's what it'd be.

I'd wait and see how the Ruger SR45c measures up.

CZ, XDS, Kahr, M&P, and on and on. Look at the CZ first.

I have been through the following before settling on the Kahr P45 - S&W CS45, Taurus PT145, Sig 245 (old version of 220-C), HK USPC, Colt Defender and Glock 30.

I EDC the Kahr P45 and still have the HK USPC and Colt Defender. All worked very well and I was pleased with all of them. The Kahr is tough to beat for EDC ergonomics - very easy to carry and conceal. A handful to shoot at extended range sessions, but accurate and reliable so far for me.

The PT145 and CS45 both had very good ergonomics as well. The 245 and USP-C are a bit on the large / heavy side but very good weapons.

Good luck with your choice, but there are a lot of great alternatives in this class to the Glock or 1911 - btw I really enjoy shooting the Defender - very classy piece.

I carry a S&W Chief's Special, in .45acp. Semi-auto, alloy frame, short barrel, holds 7 rounds, including one in the chamber. I have carried this pistol for many years, qualified with it many times. I also have a Tactical Series pistol, which is slightly heavier. I keep it by the bed.

ANother vote for the PT145.
Compact, light and 10 rounds of .45ACP.
I find it accurate in my hands, too.
Throw in a decent price and you have a winner.

Another vote for the Bersa 45 Thunder UC. Been carrying it for 4 years, IWB, appendix. It shoots everything. I do "wear-in" every semi-auto with 200 rounds of FMJ before using HPs. The Bersa has had zero reliability issues in 2500 rounds - not a single malfunction! Sights are spot-on, and they can be replaced with SigSauer #8 (I think) sized sights. The trigger in DA is good, and excellent in SA.

I'm also in the XDs camp. I just picked one up about a month ago and I have ~300 rounds through it with no malfunctions whatsoever. It's easier to handle than I thought it would be - center mass shots at reasonable ranges are no problem.

It is NOT a range gun though - it's not a pleasant target gun. It will do it's job very well though, and it's very nice to carry. I have one nit to pick with it - the trigger is not light at all. I can't tell you the pull weight because it maxes out a Lyman digital gauge, which measures up to 12 pounds. I've ordered a Powder River spring kit for my XDs, which is supposed to bring it down to something like 5.5 pounds. Much more reasonable.

I'm thinking seriously of carrying the XDs instead of the Kimber Pro Carry that I've carried for years.

I carry a Glock 30 sf. It just conceals so well for me and has a higher capacity than my 1911 in a more compact package.

I carried a Springfield Micro Compact for a few years. Gun had to be tweaked to get it running right, but after that it ran very well.

Many good choices in this thread. The HK45c has been my carry pistol for a few years now. With flat magazine base plates installed it's almost the exact same size as a G19. It's small enough to conceal yet large enough that I can get a full grip to control it and shoot it well at speed.

Kahr P45...light in weight, thin, that will be my next .45 carry for CCW

p245/p220 Compact. I had a p245 some years ago that I foolishly traded away.

I have a p220 Carry, which is still hefty. I have my eyes on the p227 Carry, pending real world feedback whenever it hits the market.

How about the one designed to remedy its flaws while keeping its good qualities, the HK 45C. If I believed carrying a .45 ACP was an advantage over 9x19 this is the gun I'd carry. As it is, as much as I love the HK45 C, and as great a gun as it is, its hard for me to make a rationale argument for it over a very similarly sized glock 19 as a defensive pistol (particularly if cost is any kind of concern and/or would divert resources that could be dedicated to training).

Most folks would be way better off with the G19 (or similar) and a quality training class under their belt than with just having bought a HK45C.
