Which standard pressure 9mm would be great for self defense in my Kel tec 9mm 115 or 124 ?

My PF9 and P-11 shoot either one just as well at the distances I practice. Around 10 yards or less. I shoot the 115s because I have more of them in practice rounds and try to keep the SD ammo as close as possible but, in my gun, they both are fine.

I may be wrong, but the difference as a result of weight between the two options is negligible. Each of the proven SD loads (whether Gold Dots, Critical Defense, Hydra Shok, etc) each have adequate penetration and similar expansion in both weights, where applicable.

A more important consideration might be looking for a SD load with a faster burning powder, which would allow you to get the most (in terms of velocity) from a pistol with a shorter barrel.

That's the exact opposite of what you want. Slow burning powder will still be burning when it leaves the barrel losing a lot of velocity and causing a huge muzzle blast. A fast burning powder will burn up while in a short barrel and not have as much muzzle blast.

Whoops. Thank you, my mistake there.

Jamal, look HERE. They've got a website and TONS of testing and videos of small guns shooting common SD loads. You might really like it.

My PF9 is easy to manage with 115-grain ammo. Frankly, I've not had the opportunity to try much of anything else in it due to cost and availability.

But, the Remington-UMC 115-grain JHP stuff shows up around here often enough that I can always find and shoot it, and it runs perfectly in my gun. So, that's my carry load (it's also in my Ruger P95; recoil isn't much more than that of a bunny fart in that gun.)
