New Ruger GP100 Shown at SHOT

Hey all! One of my LGS is at SHOT this week and was previewing some of the new Ruger offerings and one that caught my eye was a GP100 Match Champion model. 4.2" barrel, slab sided to reduce forward weight and half lug, fixed Novak sights, fiber optic front site, factory trigger job, a contoured cylinder, and Hogue wood grips.

I saw one of these at a gun show. The fitment of the wood grip is poor for a $700+ gun. There is a big gap at the hump of the frame where it joins the grip strap. You can even see it in the picture on the Ruger site.
 
Anyone that would pay over $375.00 for a revolver has got to be crazy.
I have Ruger Speed Six, GP 100, Redhawk 44, single six 22, MKII 22 pistol.
Least expensive was $216.00. Most expensive was $350.00
All bought new off the auctions. No way would I pay that kind of money for ANY weapon. Granted I bought these several years ago. todays guns may command that price. But they are not worth it. All five handguns I have in Ruger cost me less then $1500.00. So to pay $700-$900 for one gun is ludicrous.

Since there are few new revolvers (excepting a couple of pocket guns) that don't exceed this price point by a wide margin, and there are thousands of new revolvers sold every year, it would seem there are a lot of people who disagree with your assessment of revolver prices. ;)

How long ago were you buying these guns. I mean, I bought my 96-97% Model 19-3 for $295OTD, but that was also 9 years ago when that was the going rate. These days, it's easily a $450-475 gun. Prices change over time, and frankly your assessment of the values of revolvers is off.
 
disagree all you like. We can agree to disagree. And sure new guns are being sold all the time for $$$$ (high) But that still doesn't make a gun worth that amount. Seems everyone has to come out with the latest and greatest. Just like S&W has come out with a 460 handgun. (really) Just another novelty gun.
The days of inexpensive guns are gone. The quality of them are gone for the most part also. Just an assembly line of quick junk these days.
 
value is what you place on something. I don't see arevolver today that I would buy for more then $375. Unless it was a 357 magnum Redhawk. Then I would pay up to $600.00 for it.
People today are letting the industry drive them. Fear of not having a weapon.
My gosh. If you were to buy a basic battery of weapons: 22 rifle, 22 handgun, a service revolver, field shotgun/home defense shotgun and an auto pistol you would pay close to $2500.00 or more just for 5-6 guns. That is ridiculous.

for items that will probably outlast you? I assume you own no electronics? No TV, computer, or cell phone will give you the same value as a gun. I also assume you do not drive. If you think a $600 Ruger revolver that you can pass down to your grandkids is a bad value, I hate to guess what you think about automoblies.



Guns are a terrific value. Very few things will last as long and will actual go up in value as guns.
 
I guess I did only pay $87.50 for my first Blackhawk.......... 45 years ago. heh heh
Gas was about 27 cents too.....

So here's a question… If these were to be sold, would you price them under $350 or would you expect someone "crazy" to purchase them?
 
Couldn't they get the words any bigger?

My opinion, but I don't cotton to the BLARING model name. Why not have a little RC airplane pulling a banner that flies around over the gun whenever you shoot it?

Here is a picture of my newest... GP 100 chambered .38 Special.

Call me crazy, but I wanted it because it is purposely a .38 Special. Found at a local pawn... Came with the Pau Ferro... Tight and not a mark on it.

Because it's intended by Ruger for IDPA and/or carry.
It is not a target gun.

For IDPA & carry adjustable sights are not an absolute requirement.
