Thinking of spraying an old semi auto i use for ducks, anybody done one and any pics advice.

I have a factory dipped gun. The dip finish is very good at fighting corrosion, the only real "need" for the camo. Camo your face, much more important. A shiny face scares 'em, black and wood shotgun, not so much.

Lots of folks that shoot 870 Expresses spray paint their shotguns every season to keep 'em from turning to a big pile of rust. Guess it wouldn't hurt if the paint were camo. :D One thing I can say, DON'T USE CAMO TAPE!!! The gun will rust under the tape. My buddy did this to his 1100 Remington much to his chagrin later when he removed the tape. We hunted in salt marshes and in bay environments from a boat. It's a rough environment that pheasant hunters aren't used to. I wouldn't use a nice O/U in the salt marsh. I wouldn't paint a nice Winchester 101 or Browning Cynergy. This is why they make Mossbergs and 870 expresses. :D

JMHO

I painted a SW 1200 Pump gun 25 years ago before camo guns were the rage. Used Rustolium in flat colors...now they make Rustolium camo paint. Has weathered great. I'll see if I can get a pic.

This gun is an old B80 and has very little blue left on its metal, the stock is still covered in lacquer but dinged about some, i was looking to stop it shining like a chrome lance in the morning sun as geese are approaching, i left it on a fence the other day and went to move the decoys turned around and there was this shinny lance stood there:eek: It was very obvious. mat black barrel and frame would stop that i suppose but thought about a camo job with paint.

Yep, sounds like its time to break out some Krylon. The nice thing about Krylon is that it is easy to reapply, touch up, or completely remove.

I did it to a couple of guns back in the 80s when I was doing quite a bit of salt marsh hunting. I used auto primer on the metal and them bow paint all over. Later removed it and when I sold the guns they looked new.

Check out Oldgobbler.com and look under the tips and DIY section. There is a whole section of camo paint jobs people posted with how to's. Hope this helps.

I don't have any pictures for you, but as with any paint job, it's all in the prep work. Make sure things are well scuffed up and clean clean clean. Shoot in several light coats.

I looked on the turkey site good stuff there thank you.;)
I am going to spray it, i have decided, i will use cans for obvious practicality and the low quantitys and multiple colors needed for the job.
I have painted cars vans and trucks before so the job don't scare me.
I will take some pics before and after when i do it, thanks.
