I recently made a thread about cutting down a ribbed barrel 870 . Here are the results. I used a hacksaw and file and also replaced the stock with a shockwave technologies raptor grip.

Why not post this in that thread? Why start another thread on the same subject matter? I don't get it...

And pistol-grip 12 ga shotguns are for pirates. Are you a pirate? lol.

Run it through a class like that. If you're going to keep the pistol grip, add a sling. It'll make it that much easier to shoot. Otherwise, nice lookin gun! Any plans to have the barrel threaded for chokes?

Why do you care?

Ok, you busted me. I was being a troll.

FWIW, and imho, pistol-grip shotguns are stupid. They make them that way for sale; I guess people are buying 'em.

As for the second thread on the same gun, I care because the continued practice clutters up the forum.

I apologize. What I should have said was that pistol-grip shotguns are not my cup of tea.
It's not my gun, so have at it. Whatever works for you.

Vertical grips are stupid but not birdshead grips which absorb more recoil.
They're not optimal for shooting at moving targets, or reloading, but if you're going to use a PGO, the birdshead is by far the best way to go.

Everything on this forum get's archived within a few days of not having posts, clutter is the LAST thing you should be concerned about.

If you think pistol grip shotguns are stupid than alright. Some people like them and I think they would be fine being shown on a gun forum. I like full stocks on my shotguns but if I had to chose a pistol grip I happen to like the style shown by the OP.

Something compact that will go easily in my pack or in the trunk of the car. A vertical pistol grip punishes the shooter while a birdshead style doesnt do that nearly as much. Ive tested both out and this one takes the cake.

There are two things I've learned from this thread. One, I am reminded by this forum website's title "The High Road" that we are as participants encouraged to take such a route in our dealings with each other (posts and threads here are indeed mostly mutually enthusiastic).

The second thing I've learned from this thread is that is what pezo and Barry remind us of: that if you must shoot a shotgun wearing anything less than a shoulder stock, this "birdshead" may impart the least amount of punishment to the hand due to it's smoother contour.

Barry, please forgive my harsher judgement. I was in a mo0d.

:)

Barry the Bear - let me say that I am glad you like your set up. Items such as this are very subjective to personal tastes.

With that said, I can not stand pistol grip only shotguns. In my opinion there are more problems with them than situations they resolve. There is only ONE caveat, and that is as a dedicated "Breaching" shotgun. But unless someone is either military or LE, most of us have no need to breach much.

My preference is towards full butt stock short barrel shotguns -SBS'.

Regards,

Rob

Rob, I understand your and others opposition towards a pistolgrip only shotgun. In the service I was issued a mossberg 500 with a full stock and Years of hunting with shotguns also dissuaded me from using a PG,however after researching and shooting a variety of bird/target shot,#4/00/000 buckshot, and some remington slugs out of it, it will serve me well for the purpose of hiking defense, fishing defense,truck/car gun and other roles. Dont worry I keep a winchester 1300 with a full stock for home defense as well as my ruger blackhawk in .45 colt/acp.

Since you like short PGO shotguns let me throw this out to you. Its a very "interesting" concept to say the least

In my opinion its still very controversial from a legal perspective. Note that the letters in support of this shown at the link posted are only BATFE "opinion letters", and do not hold the weight of law. Their opinion could change in an instance

Just posting this as an FYI for those that like PGO's.

Also please note that various State laws may make this item prohibited.

Rob
