Ok, been almost two weeks since my wife loaded me into the back of an ambulance and sent me off to the hospital. Think I was in there for close to 3 days before I really knew where I was, but in the last several days I did tell my wife that I was going to thin out the heard so she would not have to deal with all this junk after I'm gone. Finally Tuesday afternoon I got home, shaky and had to have help getting into the house. Promised my wife that I would not make any attempt at doing anything by myself for a few days. Well it lasted until Thursday around noon. Went to a friends gun shop where everyone was surprised that I was even walking much less out of the house. Made a tentative agreement that my friend would help my wife the best he can. Then one of his employees said " OH That rifle you Ordered is in". I will be honest that was the last thing on my mind but boy it sure was good to see a new toy. With today's phone service I am typical of most husbands, electroicaly tracked. But today I left the phone home so safe of that part. Few hours later when I went home Wife was waiting at the door. Try to explain why your out of the house when your suposst to be be in bed or at least sitting on couch. Then on top of WHY I LEFT THE HOUSE WHY DID I NEED A NEW RIFLE. Tried the fever over 105deg and out of my mind route but it didn't work So I need help explaining why I did what I did. (Oh yea yesterday morn I did sneak out and fire a dozen rounds to make sure. But today I've paid for it big time

You let a friend borrow it for an extended period of time, remember?

But I guess you already let the cat outta the bag and said you bought it new.......maybe you should be asking yourself why you're with someone who isn't OK with you exchanging boring pieces of paper for shiny steel wonders of awesomeness??

Good luck, your brothers (and sisters...I know they're on here somewhere..) support you.

Glad to hear you're getting better by the way!

Sound like your priorities are in order. What's all the fuss about?

.
Is this supposed to funny, or just sad?

Is your post kinda harsh? :)

What wives might think sad is that I can relate to the OP. Although I may not have the health issues he suffers from, I do have the "oh, THIS gun will do THAT task... gotta have it" syndrome.

What's funny is what btg3 and The _Next_Gen just said.

Walker, with all due respect..ARE YOU NUTS? :D

You must have a death wish. It's not clear what your ambulance trip was all about, but it must have almost killed you so.... If you want to attend the next Christmas party, don't press your luck.

Item No. 2...a new rifle is not "a toy."

Now, rest and more rest. Y'got that? Otherwise, people here will be wondering..."Now, why don't he write?"

my biggest thing is i don't want vulgutures ciruculing waiting to get their hooks into what I have left over. And Hadno intitnent to go and buy a new one while in my state of mind so kids canfighth over. Guess I should have listenedted to my wife and just set here for a few more days to see if anyone was going to even visit whilI was alive. Timi will tell

Last week I didn't need a new pistol anymore than I believe you needed a new rifle. Last week I decided a new pistol I saw would be nice to have so I bought one. I tend to believe your added rifle was a nice to have.

I had some major surgery last October. Once I got home it was bed rest and my wife was hell bent on making sure I remained in bed. Probably because she cares about my well being. I needed to remain in bed, remaining in bed wasn't a nice to do thing.

I have no clue what you were hospitalized for but I would suggest you follow your doctor's orders and let's hope for a nice recovery. I have no clue what your gun buying relationship is with your wife but I suggest you inform her when you feel the need for a new gun if that is how it has worked in the past.

Just My Take....
Ron

Get some rest. While there make a list of all your guns and spend time thinking about who you want to have what when you no longer want or need them.

Listen to RussB. Spend time with family if you can. I just lost my Dad (Jan. 23) and the last three years were not quality time.

I don't know your health issues but humans surprise the doctors ALL THE TIME. So, take good care of yourself...and you will bounce back. Then you'll be back here telling us about your range trip with that NEW RIFLE you've brought home . Then we can all smile and celebrate your return to "The High Road"

Go take care of your self. We'll see you back here soon.

Mark

Why not tell the truth?

Cabin fever, boredom, and ... temporary insanity. She'll believe insane pretty easily because she now thinks you're an idiot for not taking care of yourself and, worse, leaving your phone when you might need it to call an ambulance. You're not going to convince her of anything else so you might as well go with that. ;) OTOH, you might have just told her that you were bored to death, went to the shop where you could talk to them about helping if you had died and to sit around and yak. The phone? She already has an immutable opinion on that.

As to the rifle, it was ordered before you nearly died so it doesn't count.

You already had it ordered. You were out of the house for the first time in a few days for a breath of fresh air, and they happened to have it. But now you have that cabin fever out of your system and you are ready to lay up for another week.

There. All completely true. All completely the truth... if you'll do the right thing and stay in bed for a week.

I can help

I can help, That problem you have with bringing home firearms on a regular bases,It is something we all share ! My very good buddy has found a surefire way to help with this. He goes to a lot of gunbashes and he somehow manages to be so lucky, he almost WINS a new one every time he goes to one. Hell I drove by one of our local gun dealers and saw him WINNING a new one a couple of months ago !!! SEE HOW THAT CAN WORK FOR YOU?!?!

1. Rifle ordered before trip to hospital.

2. Now that rifle has shown up there is just one more incentive to get better.

3. Thinning the heard will still happen but the mix of remaining firearms will be different.

4. The trip to the gun shop and the new rifle provided a huge boost in ones mood. Kinda felt normal again.

It's not a matter of "need." It's a matter of "want." Nothing wrong with that if it doesn't strain the budget too much.

Besides you had already ordered and paid for it before you got sick. I do suggest you keep your phone (on "silent" if you prefer to not be disturbed) with you in case of an emergency or something. Hope you make a full recovery.

You can't very well explain the no phone part. But returning to normal activities is a big part of recovery. If it brings up moral it is a good thing.
Just don't over do it and give yourself time to heal.

Women just don't understand the therapeutic value of a gun shop. I think there's something in the Hoppe's #9, or the cosmoline in the old guns.
Take care of yourself. Don't rush activities you aren't ready for, follow Dr's orders, take your meds, but don't give up your fun either.

NO NO, don't thin the herd. There's a little know fact that for every gun you sell, your life shortens by one month.

Hey man, I'm not trying to be funny here. If you're talking like you're typing, your speech is slurred and you need to take it easy. Seriously. I'll bet your wife is more concerned about you than some new rifle. Listen to her.

In all seriousness, I wish you well with your health.

As someone without children, who likely will never have children, I still have many assets that will need to be disposed of after my inevitable death. A will is a very worthwhile instrument and would alleviate some of the concern over the circling vultures waiting to lay claim to your property.

I have a cousin who say that if anything happens to me he's coming over to raid my gun room - I guess that would be a legal fight between him and the person I have listed as the sole recipient of my estate.
