Just picked up a 10/22 takedown. Now I want a good scope for it.

Since the whole point of a takedown is that it breaks down I want to make sure that the rifle still fits in the bag with the scope - unless the consensus is that those "quick detach" bases are really good enough to hold zero when being detached and re-attached every time I put the rifle in its bag. If those mounts are good enough then the scope can just go in its own pocket and be as big as it wants to be.

I don't know how expensive .22 scopes get before the point of diminishing returns so I'm not sure what my budget is yet. I want a very good scope but probably don't want to spend more than the rifle cost ($345 including tax).

What are the scopes I should be looking at?

Colt made a good call, what purpose, how are your eyes. 1-4 tactical, straight 4x are good.
Natchez has Nitrex 3-9 for around $100, made by Weaver.

I doubt if the 2-7X32 will fit in the case while still on the rifle. I tried it with a Redfield Revolution 2-7X32 and it was a no go. I know a 3-9X40 won't go.

I have a Leupold VX-1 in a 1-4X20 on one of my other rifles and plan to buy another for the 10-22 TD. Pretty sure it will fit. I've just had other things I needed to spend $200 on recently and have not bought one yet. That is my plan for the future.

I have concerns about zero staying the same with optics since the barrel comes off and the optics stay on the receiver. So far it has done fine using irons and reports I've read indicate it should be fine as long as the adjustment is done correctly.

QD mounts do work. But I'd rather not use them on this rifle. Getting the barrel re aligned right is one variable, doing it with the scope on the receiver just adds more variables. But that is just me.

I have a Leupold 1X4 20 on mine. Fits the case just right and is plenty of scope for a .22. Mine is an older VXII but it is great glass. You could pick up a first class VX2 in that size for under $300 if you shop.

And you are right, if you put a big old 3x9 on it you will not get it to fit in the bag!

I have the Nikon Prostaff Classic Rimfire Rifle Scope 4x 32mm. I had to remove the original rear site from the rifle to install the scope.

The set up does fit in the bag, but just barely.

If the Nikon 4x32 fits, then the Weaver 4x28 will. That Weaver is a neat little scope.

I'd be looking at options like the LaRue quick detach throw lever mount and thoroughly test them on the gun with the scope you are planning to use (I prefer the Mueller APV on the 10/22). Fairly expensive mount but how much is your time worth (if you have to re-zero the sucker every time you mount it). If you decide you don't like it you can resell it fairly easily to AR-15 folks, where from the reviews I've read it will hold zero.

The folks at rimfirecentral have reported that the Leapers Bug Buster fits and have had pretty good success with it. It come with QD rings too.

i have a mueller apv with a burris ar-pepr and it doesnt fit in the bag. does anyone have suggestions for a mount that will allow the scope to fit

EGW rail, Nikon fixed 4X with Warne QD rings. No problems with returning to zero after more than a dozen range trips and yes, adjusting the lock collar is crucial to the rifle's repeatability.

I would opt for a different set-up starting from scratch, probably a 1-4X Leupold or Weaver Kaspa and lower rings but I had both rings and scope on hand and other bills to pay.

I just sold it because I wanted a little more power, but a weaver 1-3x30 fit very nicely on my 10/22. It is about as small a scope as they get.

be advised that anything less than about 1.75x power and you see the front sight in the scope. they are available for about 160. I put a burris 2-7x on it for now, and it is certainly larger. maybe 2" longer and the rear bell is a little fatter too.

I love a good Nikon Prostaff Rimfire for the money...check it out here.
I've got a Prostaff 4x32 Rimfire scope on my TD. Its a great scope although it won't fit in the Ruger bag without QD mounts.
