I want to get something for open carry around the property. Ah, you say, finally a new and original request. Sorry about this. But I have looked at a bunch of pistols. Some feel much better than others. Some I have not been able to actually hold (the two largest dealers in the area were out of business when I went looking). And many items on the list are easily determined from the spec sheets. What I am hoping for here is substantiated information from a broad base. Something other than "I like my xxxx Real well". But specific performance and handling benefits actually addressed.

What I am looking for:

9mm
Very reliable and durable
High capacity - >= 15 round mag
Automatic firing pin blocking
Preferably stainless or a coating to make it weather proof/resistant
Eats just about any ammo - particularly defensive rounds
+P rated
Excellent trigger:
Could be DAO, DA/SA, or SA
Good DAO without a manual safety would be fine
Logical and well laid out
No mag safety
Lock open on last round
Somebody makes a laser for it
Good selection of holsters (e.g., popular enough)
And whatever I have not thought of

I will of course appreciate your input.
 
Beretta or Taurus 92. I prefer Taurus due to safety position but the beretta uses surplus mags. 15-19 rds in mag. Only thing I'm not sure of is "automatic firing pin blocking" but the 92 is a SA/DA with halfcock. I believe they both have a transfer bar but I may be mistaken as I'm not holding mine at the moment.
 
Just about any modern name-brand 9mm handgun will fit all your requirements.

Pick the one that fits you best.

Now all the Glock fan-boys get a turn! :D

There are so many choices with those requirements. Any reputable manufacturer will have something with all your requirements.
 
There isn`t really one manufacturer that make a pistol that is so much better than all the rest.Buy the one that fits your hand the best.A comfortable gun will be easier to shoot.
 
Like others have said, you have a lot of requirements, but they're covered by almost any modern 9mm. This means you're limiting your choices to:

Smith and Wesson M&P
Ruger SR9
Springfield XD/XDm
Glock 17/19
Caracal
Several Sigs
Beretta 92 or PX4
FNH FNS (or whatever their latest model is called)
Several Taurus models
HK P30
Para or STI double-stack 1911s
CZ-75
Jericho Baby Eagle
Steyr M
Walther PPQ

I probably missed some, but you get the picture of why this question is hard to answer.

Nearly every full size 9mm pistol produced in the last 40 years will have those characteristics.

Unless you leave the gun in the barn, most guns should be fine. Typically, Glock's are near the top of the rust resistant pile, though most other guns should be fine.

The easiest guns to get holsters for are Glock, M&P, Springfield XD, SIG P226/229, and Beretta 92. Put a rail on the Beretta, such as the 92A1 or the Taurus PT guns, and all bets are off. From Skribs post above, expect to have some trouble finding holsters for the Caracal, FNH FNS (or whatever their latest model is called), Several Taurus models, Jericho Baby Eagle, Steyr M, Walther PPQ.

It'll come down to personal preference. For me, I moved from a safe action to a da/sa as it fit my needs better.

Any one of the listed would be a fine weapon. I chose an FNX-9 since I had such good results with my FNS-40.
17+1, light weight, stainless slide, reliable, durable, accurate. Mags are spendy, but you get three with the gun, holsters are a bit harder to find but out there if you look online. I'm not sure about the mag disconnect but it's a non issue for me.

At any rate, any reputable company should suit your needs. Good luck:)
 
Stainless CZ 75 with a 20rd mec gar modded mag. If you haven't held a CZ 75 go do so, it fits like a glove made for your hand.

Indeed you do need to narrow it down more tho.
 
I m sure SIG or HK would have pistols that fit your criteria if you don't mind investing a little bit more.

Examples would be the SIG P226 or HK P30
 
You require a stainless steel gun. That excludes most auto's

The Sig P226 series has several all-stainless models to choose from

So that takes out a lot of the plastic guns like glock with the safe action tho I'm not sure what most strike fired guns would be classified as.

Stainless or rust resistant. Pretty much any modern handgun is going to have treatment to resist corrosion.

Striker fired guns are usually somewhere between single action (XDm) and 1.5 Action (Glock). Some "DAO" pistols are really LDA, or lightened double action. I took the OP's statement to mean that trigger type isn't important to him. If it really meant that he wants a hammer instead of a striker, then that nixes half my list.
 
JTQ, I figured if I just listed a bunch of 9s capable of holding 15+ rounds, someone else would fill in the blanks to narrow it down :p
 
I know the G-word is insulting to some, but look what's on the hip of almost 80% of the cops in this country and around the world. Just pick the model that fits you and enjoy it. Second choice would be the M&P 9 FS. Either one will work well. The G-gun has the better trigger.

Thanks, this is being useful to me.

A CZ is on my "want to hold" list but I have not found one to hold.

I have held several others and most are not very comfortable in my hand (high on my list of individual qualities). I should have mentioned; no Glock. I just don't like them.

I have sort of mentally leaned to hammerless. But it is not a major deciding point.

The Sig and HK are very nice. On my narrowed down list. The Beretta was not comfortable. S&W, Walther not so good a feel either.

When I narrow it down further, the sum of features may trump comfortable.

Please keep it up. Every input is considered and/or looked into.
 
This is the most comfortable 9MM handgun I have ever shot - the HK P30/P30L. It has changeable backstraps and grip panels. Check one out when you get a chance. They come in various trigger configurations and with or without safety. Very top tier in accuracy, reliability, and durability also.

There is a gun out there for you that will fit both you just have to find it.

Another thing not to worry about you can always bob the hammer.

Here's my latest project a old school cz 75 with a red dot, TS hammer, TS trigger with pre and post travel adjustment, thin grips, and a new sear. Trigger is great virtually no pre or post travel movement and break clean as glass at 1.75lbs.
