Do you still have your first gun?

Sure do. Old .22 semi auto my dad bought at the flea market when I was 4, gave it to me that Christmas. It hasn't moved from his attic in years, and I'm not even sure what make it is. It has killed squirrels and Raccoons by the dozen. One of my 5 guns which will never be for sale.

Cool question.

Daisy 99 check
HW50 deluxe .177 pellet gun check
Colt 6 inch blue python bought with money I earned at 16 Check

all present and accounted for

I bought it myself ay age 21 and still have it, a nice little plinker. I also well remember the guy down the counter from me in the store who, while they were starting my paperwork, asked the "gentleman" behind the counter how much he would pay for his pristine Walther P-38 (all steel, post-WWI)......and listening as he considered $150 for it (during the Reagan presidency), asking if he could get back to the dealer the next day. I paid $150 for my plinker, and still regret not running out in to the parking lot and telling the guy to call me and I'd have given him $200 for it (still a steal), after explaining I thought it was worth $3-400 if he marketed it himself.

first gun

Yes I do. It's a Stevens single shot 22. My dad paid $12.50 for it brand new as a 50% off deal for buying a side of beef and a side of pork from a local meat packing plant/ sporting outlet. They had these marked at $25.00. My brother and I begged for so long that the salesman told Dad that he would give him two for the price of one. That was 55 years ago and the rifle still looks near new. My boys both learned to shoot with it, but opted for 10-22's for some reason:) A need for speed I guess. I bet they are wishing they had all the ammo they blasted away now, with the shortages.

Yep. In 1963 my dad gave me a Remington 514 .22 singleshot for Christmass. I was 9 y.o. and I've had it ever since.

No. My first firearm was a Marlin model 60. I loved that gun, and enjoyed it for many years before giving it to my daughter and son in law.

At least I still get to visit, and shoot it from time to time. :)

I sure do

I think I'm the 4th or 5th guy in this thread with a 514 Remington .22. Saw one recently at a pawn shop for $150. I know what they're worth, but mine cannot be bought and will never be sold at any price. No replacement can have what this one does. It was a gift from my father.

Yes. In both ways. First actual fire arm (not BB gun) I can remember shooting was a Ruger Single Six in .22LR, I think 6-7 years old with my dad. Couldn't hit the broad side of a 24 pack "Pepsi cube". This gun is still in the family.

First gun I paid for was a Mosin Nagant 91/30. Still have that.

Still Your 1st Gun ?

No, darn it! A Ranger (Sears) .410 bolt action single shot shotgun, given me by my granddaddy, which I used in trade with other items, for my 1st revolver, a .32-20 S&W.

Depends on how you define "my" first gun. My dad bought a J.C. Higgins 22 when I was a kid but he never referred to it as my gun. That was his way of keeping his safety rule simple: I was not allowed to touch HIS guns except under his supervision. I still have that one.

The first gun I ever plunked my own money down on was a Colt AR in 1978. I sold it when money was tight.

I'm glad I sold it though!

Now that I think about it, I may actually have my grandpa's first gun too! I'm not sure when he purchased what, but I have an older 336 Marlin and a Winchester 62A that belonged to him. One thing about the Marlin blows my mind....its got the best trigger pull, bar none, of any firearm I've shot. I haven't actually checked it, but I'd say no more than 2.5-3.5 pounds of pressure releases the sear, and no overtravel, no creep, no grit....just a perfect pull, each and every time. Apparently, it came from the factory like that, as grandpa wasn't one to go out of his way to modify his guns in any way

Sure do. A Cooey 410 single shot, a christmas gift in 1966 wrapped in red x-mas paper. To this day 48 years later, I still get a little something wrapped in what is left of that very fragile paper. Thank's for rekindling the memories of that long ago Christmas morning. Dave.

I came home from the hospital at 5 days old wrapped in a stocking on Christmas Eve 1984. Christmas Day I got a marlin model 60 that was used but nearly perfect. It has been with me for 29 years and it will not go anywhere. It still has the factory stickers on the squirrel stock, even after 25000 rds and about 23 years of hunting with it. I now have 4 model 60s, soon to be 3...One was waiting in the closet for my wife some summer day 4 years ago when I decided it was a good day to give away a diamond. It's her first gun. Another came from my other grandpa as he just doesn't shoot it. Bought new in the late 60s, it served triple duty as my moms first gun, her older brothers first gun, and her younger brothers first gun. So, that covers 3 of the 4, with the last being one that I got for free from a friend. It was rusted shut with a broken stock...it now functions well and is getting pretty rather quickly. When the weather warms up, it will serve double duty as my nieces and nephews first gun.

57 Years ago, a Mossberg 352KA. 22

Still have it. Wood and metal redone because it was burgled, left in the woods for 17 months circa 2004. Found and returned by the sheriff. Five other rifles found under same brush and trees.

and a 50 yard target:

This gun has the worst trigger in America... hard to pull, it will raise a blister.

Nope. Don't even know what make or model it was, only that it was a bolt-action .22.

I was just learning to read - not quite four years old.

I traded a neighbor a couple of my chickens for it. (I raised them from the egg.)

I didn't get to keep it long - just until dad noticed it, then it was gone.

Yes I still have the first gun I ever owned. But I shot a whole bunch of other guns pretty much any time I wanted when I was a kid. Dad owned quite a few guns and my older brothers had their share too. There was always something around to use so I didn't really feel the need to own one until I moved out of the house. I bought a Raven P25 for SD because that was all I could afford. Dad got the hint I suppose after that because he gave me a couple of guns soon after. I still have one of those and I gave one to my daughter. I started buying my own guns not too much longer after the first round. I guess it was a while because I was still young and broke for a good while.

Got a Winchester Model 67 Bolt action .22 for my sixth birthday. 'Lost' it in a divorce 43 years later. Got the rest of my guns back after a couple of years in court but they just couldn't find that one.

Raven MP25. Very reliable after adjusting the magazine (before adjustment I had a stovepipe every other round).

My first gun and one of the last ones I'd ever get rid of.

Yes, the 1940's Savage .22 rifle used by my grandfather to shoot squirrels in Florence/Jackson MS.

Used it a few times in the early 80s (young age), and never touched any gun again until 2007. Finally found out, now living near small towns, that there are still:eek: safe places to shoot by the metro area, away from ranges/clubs.

That Savage's bead sight is one of the best types of front post I've ever seen.

I have every gun I have ever been given, except an old single shot 20-gauge that fell to pieces. My first firearm is my beloved Winchester 70 .243 youth model I received on my tenth birthday.

My first gun was a Ruger 6.5" Stainless Blackhawk 357 magnum. It was my only gun for several years. Shot it a lot. Eventually got a semi auto that for a time replaced it. Periodically I would start shooting it again because it was just fun to shoot. When I needed to practice fundamentals I would pull it out and practice. Other guns would be purchased and "replace" the Blackhawk for a time. Eventually I would come back to the Blackhawk for practice or just plain fun. This is one gun I will never let go. This all started over 30 years and many guns ago. For some reason I really like the nostalgia of my first gun as well as the single action simplicity. Now that I think about it I should go shoot it again just for fun! :D
