Gods coununtry. IDAHO.
I just started hunting them I was able to find a calling mentor. We have been able to go several times and I've learnd a lot from him we've been also trying to get a wolf hunt together. It's taken me awhile to get every thing together picked up a Howa 1500 in 22-250 so working up a load and sighting it in to gettin a buckshot mold so I'm able to load my own buckshot and pattern testing it. I get a very good pattern out to about 70 yards as for the 22-250 my load I'm able to cover my group with a dime.
On Monday I wen out by myself from where I parked my truck to were I started calling was about 3/4 of a mile I called in a pair when they came in from the up wind side and behind me when I heard them they were about 10 yards from me and charging in. I don't remember moving my rifle and grabbing the shot gun all I remember is seeing them and cutting loose. Talk about exciting this is the closest they have ever come in.

The pelts are worth about 40.00 and I was only able to get the one. This is my first one that I actualy called in I've shot them before but never actually calling for them.

Ya, my Son was out yesterday with his crew and had a very similar situation. One guy was on the 22-250, another the .243, and my son was working a .270 win. But when 4 or 5 came in all at once, and one went running right between their positions, it got all crazy he said. So after the first two had dropped, the other 2 or 3 got confused. My son missed with the .270, and when he recovered from his shot, he saw another like 10 yds and closing fast, so he just dropped the rifle and grabbed his 870 and nailed the close encounter, then picked off another that was trying to get out of dodge with 00 buck.

Yotes are so much fun. Any time I just can't come up with something to do, I grab the calls and head out for some moving target practice,

I hear ya on justifying the price of shot I already cast allmy pistol Boolits and some Rifle and paying 20 or 25.00 for 10 rounds of heavy coyote 3 1/2" shells to where I pay 40 for another mold diliverd it was a no brainer. Another thing after looking at the vilosity of the two rounds ther wasn't much differance the biggest differance was the pay load. I did some informal pattern testing and with a full choke installed out to 75 yards it was still holding a good pattern 50 yards with a modified choke. This was with #4 buckshot that I cast myself.

Here in Pennsylvania the coyotes are getting bigger.I saw a picture of a sixty pounder. My hunting buddies have taken a few while deer hunting. We had an incident a couple years ago where a coyote jumped a fence into a yard to grab a chicken among some children. The state biologists did some dna testing and determined there is a small amount of wolf dna in some of them. They surmised that it was interbreeding in Canada as they moved east.
