Does this have prison time written all over it?

"WTT/WTS 1 30RD.MAG.WAS A FULL AUTO BUT CONVERTED TO SEMI. IF YOU WANT TO, CONVERT BACK,GET YOUR PAPERS AND 10 MIN.WORK AND YOUR GOODTO GO"

How can anyone just get 'papers' to convert back to FA? They can't, unless it was in the registry before it closed. It wasn't in the registry, he wants $1000 for it. Almost sounds like it is a sting.

I believe some open bolt guns were grandfathered but I doubt a new deactivation counts.
Also if it is transferable it would be worth a lot of money so why is he selling this way? If it is not transferable, a reactivation cannot be done.

Prison time? Maybe not.

Prison time? Maybe not.

Going by the selector markings, the gun was originally made as a semi-auto.

But IIRC, BATF ruled those open bolt guns to be machineguns and required registration as machineguns, even though they never fired full auto. Others were converted to machineguns legally and registered prior to 1986, but those usually had the selector switch marking changed.

If the gun is in the NFRTR as a machinegun, it is irrelevant how it fires now. If it is semi-auto, it is still legally a machinegun and can be made to fire FA without any paper work. But it would have to be transferred on a Form 4, which is probably what the seller means by getting papers.

Any interested party should ask to be sent a Form 4 with the seller and gun info filled in.

Regardless, I bet there are a whole lot of people in South Florida who could convert it back with a nail file and a safety pin for a spring.

And they don't care at all about the Federal legal aspect, or registration, or tax stamp.

Because they all work for one of the drug cartels.
And do them by the dozens.

I did assume that our posters are good folks who would never consider violating the law. Actually, if I am correct, there is nothing to convert back to FA since it was never FA to begin with, except by legal fiat. But if it is in the NFRTR as a machinegun, it is legal and transferable, and the purchaser can use that nail file and safety pin with BATFE's blessing.

Entirely possible that it had a registered sear/bolt.

A registered sear/bolt can be installed in any semiautomatic MAC10, and once removed the MAC10 remains a legal semiautomatic.

That said the seller is an idiot for suggesting "10 MIN.WORK AND YOUR GOODTO GO..."

Yeah, he is, but it's not a particularly untrue statement. There are what, 7 or 8 different ways to convert an Ingram to full auto?

Not exactly something you should advertise when you are selling a gun, anyway. What's the legal phrasing for it.. Constructive intent or something?

A lesson I learned from buying guns online: Never do business with an idiot. If his communication implies that he's an idiot, then he is.

Just put your money back in your wallet and avoid the idiot.

That has moron seller written all over it. That gun was never full auto or open bolt. It would also be next to impossible to convert to full auto unlike the open bolt semis.

Also, there is no such thing as a registered sear or bolt for the m10/11, the semi autos are so different they are practically another gun and can't be made full auto.

...The mag has nothing to do with full-auto function.

Its a pretty important component unless its belt or drum fed. It would take some pretty quick hands to make full auto work by single loading.

Interesting. I just noticed in the previous ad that he shows it with a folding stock. If it ISN'T a registered machine gun (or a registered SBR) then he's already posting pictures of a federal felony.

Those pics just scream "ignorant or scamming seller."

It's only a MAC10 "converted from auto" because a few MAC's were redesigned as open bolt pistols. This was manufactured as a closed bolt pistol. It was never full auto from the beginning.
I say that because if you look at the potato-pic of the pistol's left side it says "MasterPiece Arms" of Carrollton GA. As far as I know, they've never possessed a license to mfg title II arms. They do, however, make some spectacularly crappy guns. (JMHO)

  • All MAC 10's that I've seen were equipped with threaded barrels
  • They all had a web strap at the front to assist on holding down the muzzle.
  • None used E-clips to retain any of the pins, as shown in the photos.
  • They all had a sliding stock AND a small release button on the bottom of the receiver to adjust the stock. The seller may have removed the stock but the release button as well? I don' thin' so.

Why would they convert them? I thought the antigun Democrats shipped them ready to rock and roll....they can't do anything right...
