Hubby Is Appearing on Sons of Guns!

While Sons of Guns was cool when it first aired and even non-gun people were talking about it, the manufactured drama eventually killed any enthusiasm I had for it.

The only 'gun show' I will watch nowadays is Top Shot, even the wife likes that show.

I hope it turns out to be a good experience for your Hubby.

I have a friend who was offered a job working for them a few years ago. It was good money but basically it seemed like they wanted someone to hold a license for them. Think on that for a moment.

The other problem my friend had was that he builds high quality custom guns. That can mean a lot of things to different people, but he certainly does not weld MAC-11's onto ammo cans.

The show was probably a good thing overall in that it was a start to normalizing the representation of gun culture on TV. It reminds me of the Red Green show, and I wish it had a laugh track.

Try and remember to post it a day ot two before it airs, "if you remember". Most folks will forget about it by then. Thanks,
Gym.
PS: I forget what I had for breakfast these days.

I hates reality TV.

Though I guess it's better to be on "Sons of Guns" than "Amish Mafia".

Congratulations!

Lathedog, Red Green show was awesome!

This picture illustrates the show to me, in general...

Customer: "I want a gatling shotgun!"

RJ: "Our innovative design will be a GAMECHANGER, if this works, these'll sell like hotcakes!"
(Crudely bolts together a bunch o' saigas with a power drill as a trigger)

Customer: "Exactly what I wanted!"

RJA: "Gamechanger!" (High-fives all around shop)

I'm inclined to agree. But reality TV is what it is so I don't tune in expecting to see everyday life at a shop of any kind...that would likely be pretty bad for entertainment.

That being said, they all seem like someone I'd like to break bread and have a beer with. I can't say the same for that other reality show involving a family owned gun shop.

I hope it turns out to be a good experience for your Hubby.
He had a great time while he was down there, and it looks like he'll be going back later this year to film another episode.

I can't say before the show airs what they made, except that it's not a gatling shotgun. :p

Congrat. Glad it was a great experience. I'm not a reality tv show guy, but I admit to catching a few episodes on netflix and enjoying it. They seem like genuinely nice people.

Which one is Sons of Guns? Colorado or down South? Obviously Reality shows are TV "on the cheap" and we normally get what we pay for, probably has created an endless line of unemployed (does the Administration allow the use of the word unemployed?) Hollywood actors collecting welfare.

Atleast drop us a hint...

Is it a seadoo mounted with an Piat?

Maybe an ATV with 6 MG-34s?

No, don't hint at anything, I already know what it is....a Glauberyt PM-84 sub
machine gun but it's retrofitted to fire .577 T.Rex.

Sons of Guns is in Louisiana

.

I've liked sons of guns, makes good "background tv" while working on projects (like cleaning a gun).

When they are talking/drama-ing it is easy to ignore, then when they actually build or shoot something you watch for interesting stuff. While not particularly practical, the gattlong shotgun stuff sure looks like fun.

Glad hubby had a good time. But I have to agree with the others, the show sucks. I will watch his epsode however.

I really didn't understand the last episode I watched, they skipped around so much that I didn't know what the heck they were talking about most of the time. "the one where the lease is up", after 8 businesses' I never got served when my lease was up, I met with the landlord and signed a new one. Half the references made on that show are for people who know the back story, which I don't nor care to. It just seems like at the end he comes flying in and blows something up with tannenite or some other explosive. Very repetitious, like most TV shows.

"Real" TV....

My good friend works in the film-TV industry. He's done several episodes of Tru-TV's popular Lizard Lick towing series(as a producer & camera operations).
He says Ron Shirley(the main "character" & company owner) is great and lots of fun on the set. Shirley does a lot of hunting & owns several firearms. :D
The production company(prodco) wanted to show real car repos & real customers but in pilot/demo reels, the crew & camera guys were put in way too much danger.
The TV series isn't "reality" it's more "unscripted".

As for Red Jacket, I had seen & read online the firm isn't really well run. The USMC veteran & gunsmith lost his ATF/FFL licenses(so did his daughter) over some major problems(poor record keeping, lack of alarms-security, OSHA, etc).
The ex-employee/mgr; Vince held the Red Jacket CEO slot(since he had valid ATF licenses) but that all changed when he & Wil had the big falling-out.

I no longer have basic cable but I see a few Sons of Guns clips & shows on Netflix. ;)
That series, like Dog The Bounty Hunter, American Guns, Pawn Stars, Duck Dynasty, etc are just entertainment. I wouldn't put much stock in them for training or tactics; re: real firearms.

The first two episodes of this season have been a mess. Both times it felt like I missed the first 5 minutes because there was no set-up for certain story lines. I think they wanted to create drama about the eviction and all the internal business problems but they didn't have cameras filming when the critical events occurred so they weren't able to properly show what was happening. Also, the scene where Will said they were out of the AK business and then he mentioned the name of this new company like 4 times was probably paid product placement.

So, the show was on last night, IMO there's way too much drama but that's the producers's decision, not Red Jacket's.

For those of you who want to see another video of the M11 conversion in action, this bit of the guy who actually built the gun (it wasn't done by Red Jacket) was filmed before the "reveal" footage was taken. It fires about 45 rounds per second.

Cop shows end with the bad guy getting shot.
Pawn shows are them buying random crap
Restoration shows are the random crap from the pawn show getting fixed
Gun shows are a bunch of babble ended with tannerite
Game shows people win stuff, or money. If it's stuff then the products are crap nobody has heard of
Car shows they take junk car, pile on the work and sell it for a huge profit
Hunting shows, they kill something the last minute they can be in the woods
Fishing shows are all about talk(advertisement)rather than fishing
The current doctor shows end with miraculous remedies

Why would anybody expect anything any different? If you want real entertainment your looking at the wrong channels. Find boomerang and watch Foghorn Leghorn avoid a chicken hawk, bugs fight daffy, and tweety aggravate Sylvester. Occasionally Elmer Fudd or Yosemite Sam will have a gun. Marvin Martian does too but he's too rarely seen. Wylie and roadrunner...Tom and jerry(with butch)....this is the ONLY tv you don't know what to expect next.

And as far as sons of guns go, they put a few good combos together and rebuild the stuff I wish I could get hold of. The volcanic pistol episode is a classic.

Wait...so you're saying Red Jacket didn't actually build the gun they were shown building? On the show Will himself was shown welding on the metal Glock grip.

Who is the guy in the video?

I've been watching this season as well, for a similar reason. ;) ...but the last few episodes have been hard for me to not just turn off. :barf:

Some guy wore a Red Jacket t-shirt to the match last weekend. Oh, well. Just like the knives in the sporting goods stores that are standards but rebranded with some outdoor survivor guy. Like the one who eats the heads off live bunnies.

It's TV.

My biggest issue with SOG was their "this X project has never been done before" even though they were reinventing the wheel without needing to. Also their shady business practices ensure I will never consider shopping with them.

Nope, it was completed and functioning before Mike departed on the trip.

On the show Will himself was shown welding on the metal Glock grip.
TV Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagic!

Who is the guy in the video?
Len Savage of Historic Arms LLC in Georgia.
