Help me decide.

choice 1 is
CORE 15 77020 TAC ULTRALIGHT 223REM

Choice 2 is
Smith & Wesson M&P Semi-Automatic 223

Now I know the S&W has a very good history. Doesn't have a dust cover or the bolt pusher but it will be a range gun 98% of the time..No sand or grit...

The features on the CORE15 are pretty awesome. But history wise, its an unknown. The S&W has a million stories to tell - all positive

So my dilemma...The CORE15 is feature flash - The S&W tried and true...same price...

Anything I should be thinking here? First AR and want to make the right choice ($700 spend is not cigarette money...lol)

Thanks

I don't think you can go wrong with the sport, I have one shoots just as well
and runs as well as my other more expansive AR's

I'll be the dissenting voice. I've shot one Core15, and held 2 more. They all seemed pretty well made, and the one I shot was good.

For the same price, I'd go for the features on the Core.

Of course my standard answer for AR's is "Assemble one" so take that with a grain of salt.

Well...it didn;t take long

And confirmed what I already thought. I like tried and true...

So got my S&W from grabagun for $571.99 shipped.... :D

Its actually going to my range/gun shop FFL so add $50 (yeah they are pricey) but the whole deal is worth it. They sell the same gun there for a bit over 100 more.

Thanks guys...

I personally would go with the S&W. I have seen a few issues with the Core 15 (loose fit between upper/lower and small issues like that).I have the Standard S&W M&P15 with dust cover & F/A. I trust that rifle 100%. I know S&W are great if you have to use the lifetime warranty.

I'd go with the S&W out of those two, but personally in that price range I'd buy a Windham

You got that right !

Pretty excited...It shipped today (which was fast considering I ordered yesterday). It should be at my FFL(just happens to be my shooting range) in a few days so will be trying it out by the weekend. Like Christmas...LOL

I finally decided on an AR-15 type verses bolt or lever action (really really like the Henry Big Boy) because as a hobby, I can modify if I so desire. Sort of like customizing a car....only easier...LOL

I was already looking at hand guards...and I want to look into optics...oh man, am I in trouble ...as it is, my wife is wondering about the endless stream of ammo that's arriving...

Question...might be silly but

When I first saw this, it was on budsguns and listed this way

Smith & Wesson M&P Semi-Automatic 223 Remington/5.56 NATO 30
Lists the caliber as 223 Remington/5.56 NATO
UPC No:022188145663
MFG Model No:811036

I bought the one at grabagun listed as
Smith and Wesson M&P 15 Sport 811036 Rifle 5.56 NATO 16 inch 30rd Black

UPC no: 022188145663
Manufacturer Part Number 811036

so they are the same, but was wondering - is it capable of both? I read that you can use .223 in a 5.56 but a 5.56 in a .223 might just blow up due to pressure. I am sure that is not the case here ...but teach me why...

Thanks

You can shoot .223 in your 5.56 chamber, so you are good to go. The S&W was a wise choice of the two based on reputations.

Just shows you

The crap you read on the internet - I sort of knew anyway...but being new, it didn't hurt to ask :D

That way my information comes form knowledgeable sources, not ehow...LOL

Threw a Spikes Tactical receiver on my M&P Sport,90 bucks shipped from Primary arms.Wanted dust cover for walking mountain property, didnt need forward assist but its there.Gonna sell original receiver and get some of my money back. With the new upper receiver I'm only into the gun for 700 bucks out the door.:)
