IWB Appendix carry holster for N frame

I've never tried appendix carry with an N frame but when I put my 5" 1911 down the front of my pants the muzzle either pokes me in the leg or the muzzle is all the way down there amongst my privates, especially while I'm sitting down.

Good luck with that.

Is that an N frame or are you happy to see me?

I couldn't help myself.

Seriously, if this works for you, I would like to know how you pull it off. I can't even conceal my j frame in appendix position without a sweatshirt. Whatever holster I choose pushes the belt out very far. You can't get around the width of the cylinder.

Let us know how it goes!

Man, some threads I click on merely because my initial reaction is, "You have GOT to be kidding...!" :)

I do carry a 629 IWB, with a Hoffner's "Miurage" holster, but appendix carry seems too far a stretch. If you can find a way, wonderful! Let us know how it goes, and post pictures.

While not as powerful as .44Mag the 10x25 approaches .41 in certain loadings and more importantly is available in reasonable size package that being Glock 29. If you ask your question at gun store with good selection of holsters the salesperson will likely step out into a "laughing room".
My first revolver was N-framed .357 lets face it was not a good CCW proposition.

N Frames can be CCWed IWB. I prefer OWB at about 4:00 and is easily doable with a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake, which is redily convertible to IWB with the optional inside out straps.
As far as AIWB, well when tried it with a Colt Mustang, I found it very uncomfortable. So I can only imagine what an N frame would be like.

To those of you naysayers, those who rolled your eyes in jest, and exclaimed it can't be done, or laughed out loud, well, I found locally an inexpensive Uncle Mike's #2 holster which, while I will modify it a little bit, works just fine. :neener:

The revolver only has a 4" barrel, and the frame itself is quite narrow, the bulk of the piece is in the cylinder, which is located just below the belt line. It is comfortable for all day carry, and I can shift it around a little to make sitting or standing a bit easier. Most certainly this I would not do with a Glock or any other auto pistol, at least not with one up the spout. Just wear a hawaiian shirt or suitable untucked garment and all is well. I cannot see any evidence of printing, and am very content with this choice.

So. No. I'm NOT kidding... try it out, it is quite comfortable, and comforting to have 6, 230 grain slugs on tap in the event of an unfortunate, serious, social encounter. Next solution I'm in search of is where to carry a spare moon clip...

Sorry about the photos, or lack thereof. I'll try to remember to do this later today.

ADDITA: While I'm not a big fat guy, I'm still a bit paunchy. I can see where if one has Dunlaps very badly, this arrangement might not work so well. --Another encouragement to lose weight I suppose.

Yup. Gonna need to see pics to figure how this would happen.

You carry the cylinder BELOW your belt? How high-waisted are your pants? I can't picture how you'd sit with all that gun below your belt.

OK. I feel silly taking "selfies" in the defecatorium, but you guys asked for it:

With concealment garment.

Garment pulled back revealing grip frame.

As I look at the first photo, I can barely make out the grip thru the concealment garment. This is because 1) my arms are up, and 2) I have put on some weight, and need a larger Hawaiian shirt.

Even so when I look casually in the mirror, with my arms at my sides, the grip does not print thru the shirt. Still, I should buy more shirts.

Remember, it is only a 4" barrel, and it doesn't get fouled up with anything "down there"... I would not do this with an auto pistol with one in the chamber... oh no, no, no. Especially not a Glock!

There you go! You guys decide whether this will work for you.

Wow, I have that exact same shirt! Great one, isn't it? :)

That seems to conceal well, but I'm still admittedly confused as to how you sit. Where does all that gun go when you bend at the waist? There's got to be 5-6" of gun we can't see, below your belt. Where does the muzzle end up? Between your legs? Off to the outside of your thigh?

Call Dale Fricke as noted above he can make whatever you want great quality! 1 406 600 2712

It sort of sits nearly vertical while walking, while sitting, the muzzle shifts a little to the left to point at... well you know...

It is easy to shift it around while still in the holster, and there is no discomfort sitting or standing. Crouching down it shifts with the muzzle pointing quite obliquely to the belt line. If you are thin you might not experience quite as much shift, but my paunch pushes down on the grip/handle to twist the holster and revolver a bit.

Anyways, it works for me. YMMV

Glad it works for you!

I've started carrying my G19 :what: AIWB for about a month on and off (after I had practiced many, many, many times with it unloaded) and I do like it for certain occasions, where I have to bend over a lot, like setting up folding tables.
Let us know where you keep moon clips, when you figure that out.

Hometeached1, it is not my place to criticize any man for his personal decisions.

With respect to the Glock, I met a fellow maybe 9 years ago or so at a IPSC match who was a cop of some sort, a southpaw. He got his Glock tangled in a seatbelt on his way out of the cop car one day and it discharged sending a bullet the length of his leg. He said it was touch and go there for awhile whether it would be amputated, but after several surgeries he still walks, albeit with a limp.

I am convinced had he carried with an empty chamber he would not have experienced this. I would encourage you to reconsider a live round in the chamber with a Glock carried in this manner.

If your handgun is properly maintained, and in a proper holster, it will not accidentally discharge.

A proper holster is; 1. designed to fit the particular gun.
2. designed for the method of carry. (OWB,IWB,AIWB,POCKET)

What will cause a NEGLIGENT DISCHARGE is a lack of training/practice, or just plain not paying attention.:cuss:

If you use a piece of gear in a manner for which it was not designed it can or will cause unwanted results.

End of rant, no offense intended. Maybe something to think about.

This is my opinion based on my training and experience.

Stay Safe :D

Stubbicatt, I appreciate your concern. I won't say that I will never have a ND, but I do take extra care whenever I holster or draw it. I do not pull it out to mess with it and all of the holsters I have for it are made for the mid size Glock and cover the trigger guard, no "making" one work. While I do have some generic "small frame revolver" holsters for my J-frame it's because I feel that I can be "less" careful with it.

Also thank you for not being "preachy". If someone wants to carry without one in the pipe, that's their choice, it does not bother me at all, but if they ask, I will tell them that I think it's safe if you are careful. I have a good friend who does not think you should ever carry a round in the chamber and we agree to disagree.

Sorry this got a little long.

As for carrying moon clips, maybe TAKtical a member here could make you something. He made me a semi custom IWB magazine carrier.

Sorry brothers. As I said no man may criticize the personal decisions of another. If I have caused offense, that was not my intent. Just passing on what I accepted as "wisdom" gleaned from the story of another man. If it helps you in your life that's all I meant to offer.

As far as lefty60's comments, I was not present when the Glock discharged. As I understood the story told me, it discharged when it got caught up in a seatbelt, and near as I can glean, was drawn from the holster and fired. I dunno. I have no first hand information. I think the man's gear worked, but an unforeseen intervening event caused an unfortunate failure, which had there not been one in the chamber, may have been averted.

Not that it can't happen to anyone, heck, my Model 22-4 could suffer a strange sequence of events and I might be a eunuch the rest of my days, having to squat to pee...

Be safe, and be happy! :)

moon clips

Safariland makes or used to make a speed loader "pouch" that straddled your pants belt. The loader would then set on top of the belt, three rounds on front side of belt and three rounds on back side of belt.

I would think that you could find someone that would make a similar thing for your moon clip reloads. It would conceal as well as your revolver does.

I used a double set of the things for at least 10 years and was very happy with them.

Hope that this helps :D

I carry my lcr and sp101 snubbies this way. I'd like to carry my 4.2" GP 100 like this. I will have to find an appropriate holster and give it a go.

I AIWB'd my Model 27 and my Ruger Alaskan. I carry my S&W TRR8 strongside IWB. All this is not that big of a deal.

I have used a Sideguard holsters. Always been willing to adjust ride height and cant to meet my needs. I dont own a N frame but routinely carry my K frame in one.
